    Proposals which could result in the overnight closure of Telford's A&E department are provoking some comment from local politicians.

    The MP for the Wrekin, Mark Pritchard, has demanded the NHS publish the justification for this immediately.

    There's been speculation of Telford being on the brink, but an official statement sets out that there's no winding-up order against the club and that all the players have been paid.

    Telford do have bills to pay, though, and extra help and support is needed to keep things going in the short-term.

    In the longer term, the club says it can no longer be run by fans' committees and the process for that will start this week.

    This is to make it more attractive to external investors and we believe there is interest out there.

    Shrewsbury Town's online poll, external to find their greatest ever team has come to a conclusion.

    The club ran the vote position-by-position and unsurprisingly, record goalscorer Arthur Rowley easily won his poll for the number 10 shirt.

    The team includes a number of players who went on to be managers and another who is in the frame to be the next Shrewsbury manager and lines up as follows: Bob Wardle, Jake King, Nigel Pearson, Ross MacLaren, Tommy Lynch, Mickey Brown, Graham Turner (pictured above), Ian Atkins, Paul Maguire, Alf Wood, Arthur Rowley.

    Those players will now feature in a mural at the ground.

  12. Mosses project given £3.75m by EUpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    A Natural England project to preserve bog-land on the Shropshire-Wales border has been given £3.75m by the European Union's LIFE fund, external.

    The money will be used over the next five years to buy more of the land, raise water levels and restore habitats around the Fenn's, Whixhall, Bettisfield and Wem mosses and the Shropshire Wildlife Trust is also looking to make a bid for Heritage Lottery Fund money.

    The Marches Mosses are Britain's third largest raised bog and cover an area equivalent to 1,000 football fields, with one third of that in Shropshire and the rest in Wales.

    British diplomats have been in touch with a former Reuters war correspondent, said to be from Shrewsbury, who has been arrested on drugs charges in Bali. 

    Indonesian police say they found David Fox carrying a package of hashish and found more in his room.

    He and an Australian man could face jail terms of up to 20 years.

    Shrewsbury Town have been fined £4,500 for their part in a half-time brawl during their recent defeat at Bury. The home side were fined £5,000 for the tunnel incident.

    Both clubs were charged with failing to control their players and officials during a game Bury won 2-1.

    West Mercia Police has launched a campaign to raise awareness of hate crime in Shropshire.

    They say there has been an increase in the number of offences against people targeted because of their race, religion, disability or sexual orientation.

    The Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal hospitals say they're working on contingency plans for accident and emergency after another consultant resigned. 

    The hospital trust will now reach the 'tipping-point' at which it's said it would struggle to provide a safe and sustainable emergency service at both hospitals.  

    Unless help can be found from other hospitals in the region, A&E at the Princess Royal in Telford may have to close overnight. 

    Services at the Royal Shrewsbury would be maintained, as it houses the county's trauma unit and the main centre for surgery.
