    A care company in Wellington, which looks after people in their own homes, has been told to improve by the Care Quality Commission.

    Inspectors said some staff at Carradice Care in Tan Bank were turning up late, couldn't cook, and weren't treating people, or their homes and belongings with dignity and respect.

    The trust that runs Shropshire's smaller rural hospitals and community health services could merge with a larger health service body, 

    Shropshire Community Health Trust will decide at a meeting tomorrow whether to back the move, which is being suggested because it's struggling to recruit staff and hasn't got a big enough budget.

    One option is for it to merge with the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust.

  6. Paramedics use translation tool to treat Bulgarian pairpublished at 11:37 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    Paramedics used an online translation tool to communicate with two Bulgarian men after their car was involved in a crash with a tractor and ended up in a hedge near Oswestry yesterday.

    The collision happened on the road running parallel to the Shropshire Union Canal between Queens Head and Rednal at 16:00 and one of the men was taken to hospital in Stoke with head and chest injuries.

    Because neither men could speak English, the translation tool was used to help carry out an assessment.

    The second man suffered relatively minor injuries and was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

    Three of the Environment Agency's flood alerts, external remain in place in the county, covering the rivers Severn, Tern and Perry and the point where the Severn and the Vyrnwy meet.

    The good news is that river levels are expected to fall, unless there is more heavy rain.

    A 1-0 victory over Connah's Quay was enough to see TNS through to the Welsh Premier League Cup final, again.   

    The New Saints are now unbeaten in 20 league and cup games this season.

  10. Agreement over threatened bus routepublished at 10:35 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    An agreement has been reached to make sure a bus route between Rhayader and Shrewsbury continues to stop at villages in the west of the county.

    The X75 bus route has stops in Halfway House, Wattlesborough and Ford (pictured below), but the service to these villages was due to stop in December 2016 after a disagreement over funding between Powys County Council and Shropshire Council.

    The agreement to keep the service as it is, for the time being, was reached after Shropshire Council offered to make a contribution towards its costs.

    Talks will now continue to reach a long-term funding solution.

    A charitable trust set up by a north Shropshire businessman is spending £800,000 on creating affordable homes in Prees, specifically for people over 75.

    Ray Grocott from Grocontinental has already spent £1m on a new medical centre. The eight bungalows are being built next door.

    Ray's daughter Linda says it's a generous legacy and that the family is proud.

    A row is simmering in Whitchurch over plans to put cameras on a supermarket car park. 

    Tesco wants to restrict the length of time people can park at the White Lion Meadow site.

    The land is leased to Tesco by Shropshire Council, and residents argue that as it's not the retailer's land to begin with it shouldn't be allowed to submit such plans. 

    Whitchurch Town Council also disagrees with the proposals, saying it would affect trade and damage other businesses.

    Using a mobile phone at the wheel is as dangerous as drink driving, the chief constable of West Mercia Police says.

    A month-long enforcement campaign is under way and in the first three days 118 drivers were ticketed, eight in front of a police station.

    Next year, the penalties double to six points and Anthony Bangham is expecting a big increase in disqualifications.
