    A national shortage of qualified nurses has prompted one Shropshire hospital to launch a "one-stop" recruitment day for qualified staff. 

    Suitably qualified people could have found themselves offered a job on the day following a tour and an interview at Oswestry's Orthopaedic Hospital over the weekend.

    The question of whether Waitrose, Lidl or both will end up being built in the south of Shrewsbury has been a long-running saga. 

    Waitrose already has permission to build next to the garden centre on Oteley Road, but has delayed work as a series of other supermarket plans have been given the go-ahead.

    A report to Shropshire councillors says Lidl and Shrewsbury Town FC, whose land the store would be built on, have answered concerns about the loss of community sports facilities - and the threat of Waitrose pulling out shouldn't concern them. 

  5. Watch out for delays on M54published at 09:38 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    There are more roadworks on the M54 this week.

    The roundabout at junction 4 will be down to one lane during the day as improvement works start there. 

    And further down, there are overnight works between junctions 3 and 2.

    Goals from Billy Sharp and Stefan Scougall gave Sheffield United a 2-1 victory over nine-man Shrewsbury.

    Louis Dodds scored for the visitors during a fiery encounter at Bramall Lane in which Jim O'Brien and Abu Ogogo were sent off.

    Shrewsbury were reduced to 10 men in the 22nd minute after O'Brien fouled Daniel Lafferty in the box. Sharp saw his penalty saved by Mark Halstead, however.  

    With just seconds remaining in the first half, Ogogo was shown a red card for a high studs-up tackle on United's Paul Coutts.

    Mourners gathered on Saturday for the funeral of ex-footballer Dalian Atkinson, who died shortly after being tasered by police.

    Former Villa players Ian Taylor and Tommy Johnson were among the guests at the humanist service.
