A leading supporter of plans to reorganise Shropshire's hospitals says they might struggle to attract funding, because of competition from elsewhere in the country.

    Two A&Es

It's thought £300m would be needed to create a new A&E unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and a round-the-clock urgent-care centre in Telford.

More money would also be needed to move Telford's women and children's centre.

Mark Cheetham, the care group medical director for the two hospitals, said the plans had been well thought out but there were lots of other hospital trusts drawing up what are known as sustainability and transformation plans at the moment.

Every sustainability and transformation plan in England is producing plans at the moment and a lot of those are looking at capital money. I don't know where we are in the queue. I hope we are at the top
