    People wanting to buy shares in AFC Telford United have less than 24 hours to get their applications in., external

    The club says there has been a "positive" initial uptake of the shares, which cost £100 each and it said it is also continuing to speak to interested investors.

    Any application for 50 or more shares has to get the approval of the club's board and share certificates will be issued to successful buyers later this week.

    The team that put together Bridgnorth's winning entry in the Great British High Street Awards has thanked all their supporters.

    Sally Themans (below, right) said she was "so excited, very proud" and that there was a "fantastic coming-together of so many different organisations and people and businesses and sports clubs".

    As well as getting £5,000 and the trophy Sally is holding, the competition organisers have offered local businesses social media training from Google and Twitter.

  7. Former Shropshire magistrate jailed for rape of womanpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    A former magistrate and retired deputy head teacher has been jailed for nine years for raping a woman with learning difficulties.

    Santokh Minhas, 67, raped the victim at his home in Shropshire, in 2015, and threatened her with repercussions if she told anyone.

    He was arrested after the victim told a friend and police were notified.

    Minhas, of Broadway, Shifnal, was found guilty of rape and sentenced at Hereford Crown Court on Friday.

    Messages of congratulations are being sent to Bridgnorth, after it scooped an award in the Great British High Street of the Year, external awards.

    They include the Severn Valley Railway, which was one of the places the judges visited when they came to inspect the town.

    Women in Market Drayton have knitted over 700 angels and are leaving them in various places around the town.

    They're yours to keep if you find one and they come with an invitation to gather in Cheshire Street on Sunday for a street nativity called 'Buttercross to Bethlehem'.

    Politicians from Shrewsbury and Telford have been trying to influence tonight's meeting of Shropshire's health commissioners.

    The Shropshire and Telford CCGs will have to decide whether to back recommendations for a shake-up of the county's hospitals - Telford and Wrekin Council has threatened to launch legal action if they vote in favour.

  12. Bridgnorth wins £5,000 after victory in high street competitionpublished at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    Bridgnorth's victory in the Great British High Street of the Year, external awards wins the town £5,000, but the organisers always said it was more about civic pride than the prize-money.

    They said they gambled by attempting to show the judges the "real" Bridgnorth and beat two Leicestershire towns in the Large Market Town category Market Harborough and Hinckley - which both sent congratulations.

    A new campaign is being launched by West Mercia Police, external - highlighting the dangers of what used to be known as "legal highs". 

    The psychoactive drugs were banned in the summer.

    There's a celebration at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall this afternoon, bringing together a range of Olympic and Paralympic competitors whose sports are based at the venue.

    There will be 11 Rio-medallists attending, representing Britain's gymnastics team, paralympic archers, wheelchair rugby team and the badminton squad.

    The Lilleshall National Sports & Conferencing Centre is managed by a private company, Serco, on behalf of Sport England and served as a training venue for athletes from several other countries ahead of Rio.

    Shropshire Council is asking people to sign up for a scheme to help pay for country parks, heritage sites and rights of way.

    In return for paying £3 a month to join Shropshire's Great Outdoors, external, people will get free-parking at some council-maintained sites, as well as access to members-only events and guided walks.

    Shropshire Council has taken the step to cut the amount it spends itself, pointing out it has to maintain over 5,500km of public rights of way in the county.
