  5. Plans to make route into town centre more accessiblepublished at 11:37 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    A pedestrian route into Shrewsbury town centre may soon be adapted for wheelchair and pushchair users. 

    The current route runs around the walls of the castle and ends at the steep Dana steps (pictured below).

    There has been a campaign to make it more accessible by using land owned by Shropshire Horticultural society. 

    The society has now agreed to help and submitted plans to the council, saying it's the "the best scheme possible".

  9. Hospitals reorganisation could get green lightpublished at 10:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

    Health bosses in the county will decide tonight whether to go ahead with their proposals for a new emergency centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. 

    If representatives from both Telford and Shropshire CCGs agree with the recommendations then a public consultation will begin in January.

    However, if that does happen Telford and Wrekin Council say they'll start legal proceedings to halt the process.

    Under the proposals, the Women and ChIldren's Unit would move from Telford to Shrewsbury and the Princess Royal Hospital would be downgraded to an urgent care centre and would also get a planned surgery unit. 

    Tonight's meeting at Telford's International Centre is open to the public and starts at 18:30.

    Inquiries are continuing after a man died at a house in the Corvedale, external in the early hours of Saturday. 

    Police, including a trained negotiator, were called to a property at Hungerford, near Church Stretton.  

    The coroner's been informed and the Independent Police Complaints Commission has been notified.
