    Rail unions are warning of strike action if a scheme to remove guards from trains is introduced in the West Midlands.

    Drivers and guards are currently on strike on the Southern Rail network in a dispute over who should operate train doors.

    The RMT Union says the same thing could happen in the West Midlands and Ken Usher from the union says they don't believe the change would be safe for passengers.

    On Tuesday, the government said it may consider banning strikes on the railways.

    The emergency services say they are expecting this weekend to be one of their busiest of the year and extra police officers will be going on patrol around our town centres.

    West Mercia Police says alcohol related violence is a big issue over the Christmas period, with 1,005 violent crimes reported last Christmas.

    The force says last December 46% of violent crime, where someone was injured, was alcohol related.

  4. Watch: Shropshire choir celebrates 10th anniversarypublished at 15:52 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2016

    A choir that started in Shrewsbury 10 years ago, with some friends gathering around the piano to sing Christmas carols now has over 90 members.

    Over the past decade the Jigsaw Sound, external choir has performed at a number of venues around the county and raised thousands of pounds for local causes.

    This month it has also been invited to perform in Liverpool.

    The chief executive of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says the county's "fragile" A&E departments can't carry on as they are, relying on "the continued good will of clinical teams".

    Simon Wright is disappointed at the decision of the county's health commissioners to put hospital reorganisation on hold and said he was waiting for feedback from them "in regard to process, decision-making and pace", before deciding what to do about emergency care.

    Mr Wright also said "our population may be denied an opportunity to engage in formal consultation" because of the decision of the two clinical commissioning groups.

    Tonight the centre of Shrewsbury will be packed for the annual Carols in The Square event.

    Carol singers and a brass band will be among the acts on stage and it will be hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire presenters Eric Smith and Clare Ashford.

    The MP for Shrewsbury says he is writing to the prime minister, because he is unhappy at the latest delay to the review of Shropshire's hospital services.

    Daniel Kawczynski supported the review's recommendation that Shrewsbury should get the county's only full emergency department and was left frustrated when health commissioners voted to put the process on hold, to allow more work to be done.

    The delivery office at Oswestry is three or four times busier than normal at this time of year, according to the manager there, Mark Robinson.

    He said his post vans covered an area of 400 square miles, stretching over the border, into Wales.

    A Shropshire GP says something needs to be done to reform healthcare in the county. 

    Dr Finola Lynch spoke out after plans to have a super A&E in Shrewsbury and urgent care centre in Telford stalled.

    A Shropshire woman who discovered that a stained glass window in her bathroom was a valuable work of art, is hoping someone may know how it got there.  

    When Rosalind Garrard moved to Church Stretton she knew the window was unusual and it turned out to be a stained-glass panel created by the artist Margaret Rope.

    Rosalind has no idea how it got there. It's now been restored and mounted and is on show until the middle of next month at Shrewsbury Museum in the Old Music Hall.
