    Rail passengers are being warned to expect more disruption this evening, as workmen battle to clear all the debris off the lines after Storm Doris.

    Network Rail says its "orange army of engineers" have been clearing everything from trees to trampolines and chairs from the track, and bags from overhead power lines.

    Shrewsbury Town added a number of youngsters during the January transfer window, and midfielder Gary Deegan says he and some of the other more experienced players are feeling a greater sense of responsibility as a result.

    Deegan joined Shrewsbury in the summer and says the older players need to keep everyone together as they attempt to fight their way clear of the relegation zone.

  5. Storm Doris: Shrewsbury town centre road closed because of falling roof tiles published at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2017

    Raven Meadows in Shrewsbury town centre has now been completely closed, because of concerns about roof tiles falling off the Charles Darwin shopping centre.

    Four ridge tiles fell off earlier today, the centre said, and the road has been shut as a precaution.

    A patient at Oswestry's Orthopaedic Hospital was left paralysed, but still conscious ahead of surgery, a report has revealed. 

    It's understood it happened last month and was spotted before surgery started, allowing the problem to be rectified in the anaesthetic room and for treatment to continue.

    It was one of three serious incidents reported to a board meeting today - they also included an investigation into an incident when surgery was carried out on the wrong finger of another patient.

    The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt hospital says an investigation is underway and its director of nursing says the trust has a culture among staff of reporting all incidents, so they can be investigated and lessons learned.

    The police say roof tiles have been falling off the Charles Darwin shopping centre in Shrewsbury.

    And they are reporting that the short stay car park in Raven Meadows has had to be closed as a precaution.

    Members heard the council is facing "unprecedented uncertainty" in its future finances.

    The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford says the Red Cross is helping to ease bed blocking. 

    The charity supplies volunteer drivers who take ready to be discharged patients home, meaning beds can be made available for new ones. 

    They also make sure people are safe and settled back in their own surroundings.

    We're continuing to get problems on our roads.

    A van has overturned on the A5 near Chirk and the road is closed between the Gledrid Roundabout and the Halton Roundabout, with traffic going through Chirk instead.

    And the A49 is closed at Beeston and Whitchurch, with long tailbacks being reported

    A dead horse has been dumped by the roadside in Cleobury North.

    The female horse is thought to be around a year old and was found by a passer-by on Saturday by the B4364.

    The RSPCA says the horse appeared to be in a bad state when she died, but the charity doesn't know where she came from or who she belonged to.

    The police say the tree has been cleared from the A49 between Shrewsbury and Church Stretton and the road is re-opening.

    Traffic around the Dobbies roundabout, to the south of Shrewsbury, has been very slow because of the closure.

    It's also been having an impact on traffic around the Meole Brace retail park.

    The government has asked Shropshire Council to house more asylum seekers. 

    The Conservative authority, which has welcomed 63 Syrian refugees so far, initially refused, but a meeting this morning has been told another approach has been made.

  19. Storm Doris: Two elderly men in hospital after tree hits carpublished at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2017

    Two men have been taken to hospital after a tree fell on their car on the A49, just north of Church Stretton, this morning.

    The ambulance service says the front seat passenger, a man in his 80's, has been taken to the major trauma centre at the Royal Stoke University Hospital suffering from a cut to his neck and chest pain. 

    His wife, who was in the back seat, was unhurt.

    The driver of the red Ford Focus, who is 75, was taken to hospital in Shrewsbury with neck and chest pain.
