    A health roadshow designed to help catch cancer as early as possible is in Shropshire today. 

    Public Health England's Be Clear On Cancer roadshow is at the Pride Hill shopping centre in Shrewsbury.

    Dr Helen Carter, from Public Health England, wants to spread the message that persistent "tummy troubles" like bloating and discomfort need checking.

    Wales International, Dave Edwards, says he'd like to finish his football career with one last stint at Shrewsbury Town.

    The 31-year-old still has a couple more years on his Wolves contract, but says, if the circumstances were right once his time there comes to an end, he'd love to return to the club where it all started for him in 2003.

    Edwards remains a fan of Shrewsbury Town and still lives in Shropshire and says that if he did go back, he would like to be able to contribute something.

    There’s an amber warning in place across the West Midlands for strong winds associated with Storm Doris.

    Gusts of up to 50-60mph and up to 80mph on higher ground are expected between 06:00 and 18:00 tomorrow, the Met Office is warning.

    BBC Radio Shropshire's Facebook page, external has a video tour around the McDonald's in Shrewsbury, thought to be the oldest building in the world to house one of the restaurants.

    It's attracting a lot of comments - Charlie Davidson wrote: "I remember going in to the little coves when I was younger pretending I was in some sort of cave."

    McDonald's is due to close its outlet there at the end of the week and Emily Stokes wrote: "Hope it gets used for something where the building can be seen, not just as basement storage."

    There have been comments from all over the world, with Lenasue Lc Winston from California adding: "I hope someone preserves those lovely windows."

    The champion National Hunt trainer, Paul Nicholls, runs a horse at Ludlow today who looks like having a good future. 

    The six-year-old One More Hero was a £100,000 purchase last May after some good early results in point-to-point.

    The trust who run Shropshire's hospitals says it's tackling staff shortages by speeding up its recruitment process. 

    Following criticism over long waiting times, the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says it realised it had been taking more than three weeks to advertise vacancies.

    Now it claims to have simplified the process to little more than half an hour, helping to cut staff shortages.

    A Telford secondary school is planning to open a free school for more than 1,200 pupils. 

    Thomas Telford School, one of the county's highest performing schools, is putting together plans for a new free school for four to 18-year-olds in response to the town's growing population.

    They predict the town will need an extra 2,700 primary school places by 2025. 

    The free school could be up and running in the autumn of next year or the year after.

  13. Cameras to be installed on Telford traffic lightspublished at 17:55 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2017

    Camera are going to be installed on traffic lights at the Trench Lock interchange, to catch people who drive through them when they are red.

    The roads connect the A442 and A518 and and Telford and Wrekin Council says over 36,000 motorists use it every day.

    The lights were installed in 2006 and the authority said between March 2006 and July 2016 there have been 24 collisions there and 17 have been directly attributed to drivers running a red light.

    Motorists caught by the cameras will face a £100 fine and three penalty points.

    The sister of Sgt David Evans, the police dog handler who has been told he can't take his dog with him when he retires says he is "devastated".

    West Mercia Police announced its decision earlier today, after a meeting between Sgt Evans and the Chief Constable of West Mercia Police.

    Lisa Evans said her brother had "always formed a bond with his dogs" and suggested it would have been kinder not to have given him a young dog, knowing his retirement was imminent.

    She said she wanted "further discussions and understanding" from the force.

    Sue O'Dowd is in two minds about what to do with her vintage Tesco carrier bag, bought at a store in Birmingham 36 years ago.

    She said she was "rather attached to it" because she bought it in the year her daughter was born and Tesco suggested she put the bag in a frame.

    But Mrs O'Dowd, from Much Wenlock, revealed she had thought about donating it to a museum.

    She also said it was in good condition with "one tiny little hole in one corner" and believes it has survived so well because it was used to store spare wool.

    The McDonald's in Shrewsbury town centre might look ordinary on the outside, but its medieval interior dates back to the 12th Century.

    It could be the oldest building in the world to house a McDonald's.

    The restaurant is due to close on Saturday and the fast food chain said the building "wasn't suitable to meet their future plans".

    How's this for a "bag for life" - a woman still has a plastic bag she was given in 1981.

    Sue O'Dowd, from Much Wenlock, picked up the bag celebrating Tesco's 50th birthday at a store near Five Ways in Birmingham.

    Describing it as better quality than modern bags, she said it was currently being used, 36 years later, to store wool.
