Plans for a new footbridge, external to link Telford town centre to Telford Central railway stations have been submitted.
Telford and Wrekin Council says it hopes the new bridge will be lifted into place in late February or early March next year and will replace the existing bridge across Rampart Way.
The authority says the existing red bridge is too expensive to maintain and plans to have it demolished by the end of July next year, with all work expected to be completed by late June/early July 2018.
The footbridge project has already been approved by Telford and Wrekin Council’s planning committee, but has had to be resubmitted because the design had been altered to reduce the weight of the bridge.
Quote MessageThis is a massive and extremely challenging but exciting project which will create a visually stunning gateway to Telford town centre and the submission of the final planning application is an important milestone."
Councillor Angela McClements , Telford and Wrekin Council

Shrewsbury Town are away at Chesterfield tomorrow and manager Paul Hurst believes they're playing well enough to pick up plenty of points on the road between now and the end of the season.
Town have won just two league games away from the Greenhous Meadow since he took over in October, but their home form has been a lot better.
And Hurst said he doesn't feel there is any lack of confidence among his players or concern that they can't win away, having beaten high-flying Scunthorpe recently.
Quote MessageWe want to try to pick up points but I don't think there's anything majorly wrong or an approach we need to change."

A study is being undertaken to find out why some GP practices are referring more patients to Shropshire's accident and emergency departments than others.
Shropshire's health commissioners say it could be because some doctors are more experienced than others and geography could also be a factor.

Staff shortages are forcing Shropshire's hospitals to talk to other hospitals in the region to get treatment for patients.
Neurology, dermatology and spinal surgery are all short of senior doctors, through a combination of sickness and people leaving.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust Medical Director, Dr Edwin Borman, said there was a national shortage in some specialties and the available doctors were going to work in bigger hospitals and that a long-term solution to the problem was needed, possibly linked to the ongoing review of hospital services in the county.
Quote MessageWhen doctors have the choice between going and working in a big hospital with many people sharing the workload, or coming to work here, many people would understand why they would prefer the easier life."

A Shropshire couple say they've gone to the police, over claims the Conservatives broke the law during the 2015 general election.
Gregg and Louise Kinsell from Market Drayton were volunteers on the party's Battlebus and told Channel Four News, external their expenses were never declared.

The Conservatives told Channel Four news it was "cooperating with the ongoing investigations”.
