  1. Road closure frustrates business ownerspublished at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    Tracey Higgins
    BBC Local Live

Businesses in Newport are frustrated by a road closure that's expected to last 10 weeks.

It's because 50 new houses are being built along Station Road, to the south of the town, and a pipe needs to be fitted to connect them to nearby sewers.

A diversion route is in place for cars heading northbound into Newport, via the A518, Pitchcroft Roundabout, and Wellington Road.

  2. Fly-tipping incidents fall in Shropshirepublished at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

The number of fly-tipping incidents has dropped across Shropshire.

Those figures don't take into account the amount of rubbished dumped in each case however.

At the start of February an estimated five lorry-loads of household-waste were dumped alongside a railway line at Lightmoor in Telford .

  3. Hospital staff shortages a shock to councillorspublished at 12:21 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

The staff shortages at the county's two acute hospital are "significantly worse" than Shropshire Councillors realised, according to one member of the Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny committee.

Labour councillor Andy Burford said they knew about the problems facing accident and emergency, but a report delivered yesterday had revealed other services "were in a worse state than we had believed".

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust is looking at sending some patients out of the county because it can't treat them here and the committee has called for a meeting with its chief executive, Simon Wright.

  5. Two main hospitals in crisis, say campaignerspublished at 11:13 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    Tracey Higgins
    BBC Local Live

Health campaigners say the situation at the county's two main hospitals has now reached a "crisis" point.

A council committee earlier this week was told that, because of a combination of doctors leaving and going on sick leave, three more specialist services - neurology, dermatology and spinal surgery - may have to stop accepting new referrals, or find alternative providers.

The hospitals trust says it's been warning about problems in some areas for a while and it's doing its best to find doctors to fill the posts, but that safe and dignified care for their patients has to be the priority.

    Quote Message

Councillors were describing this repeatedly as a crisis, that was the word that they used, a crisis. And absolutely rightly because this is a genuine out and out crisis, for patient care, for people living in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin, an appalling situation."

We've had our fingers crossed for months and months and months that this announcement would come. It's a little bit short, in terms of a grant that's being made available to us, but what we've done as a council is immediately committed the extra £3m to make this happen."

This community is so powerful. Do you know there was not one cross word on this job, no-one fell out, everybody was coming up with solutions. You know it took this many people to get Matthew home, but they did it in 10 days. I am so proud to be part of the whole thing, every one of them are superstars. Telford, where's my hat? Hat off.
