    The first round of this year’s British Tractor Pullers Association Championship will be held in Shropshire later this month.

    It'll all be happening at the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury over the weekend of 27 and 28 May, coinciding with the Shropshire County Show.

    One of the tractors, called Big Boys' Toy produces 2,000 horse power and 6,000 revs per minute.

    Archaeologists working on a dig at Shrewsbury's Greek Orthodox Church have made an exciting find.

    Diggers found a 15 inch wooden post which has been shown to be over 4,000 years old. The stave dates back to 2033 BC, about the time the Egyptians were building the pyramids.

    It means that the Oteley Road site could be the earliest known sacred centre in Britain that's still in use today.

    Eighteen people living in a Romanian care home were saved last month by smoke alarms fitted by volunteers from Shropshire.

    It's part of a campaign to improve fire safety there, which has seen more than 30 engines, thousands of uniforms and 20 tonnes of aid, delivered by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service over the past few years.

    Retired fireman Steve Worrall, who began the fire prevention campaign in eastern Europe, has left Shrewsbury this morning on an 1,800-mile journey with a convoy of three more engines that are being donated.

    A new station commander has been appointed at RAF Shawbury.

    Group Captain R S Norris, otherwise known as Chuck Norris, joined the Royal Air Force in 1988.

    As a helicopter pilot, he's completed tours on the Wessex and Chinook in Hong Kong, Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Sierra Leone and the Falkland Islands.

    Hospitals in Shrewsbury and Telford say they're pleased to have met waiting time targets for cancer treatment over the past year.

    The NHS expects 90% of suspected cancer cases to be seen by a consultant within a fortnight of going to their GP, and 85% to be treated within two months.

    The Shrosphire Sailing Club in Ellesmere has suffered a break-in, with the costs of the thefts and damage thought to be upwards of £20,000.

    It's believed to have happened between Monday and Tuesday lunchtime, and two engines from their safety boats were taken and two others vandalised.

    Police are out in Wellington today as part of a week-long mission targeting international criminals.

    Operation Trivium is a national operation aimed at offenders who move around the country to avoid detection.

    Customs officers, trading standards experts and Shropshire Council's Animal Unit are also involved.

    The idea is to tackle everything from shoplifting and fraud, to burglary and drug-dealing, as well as human trafficking for prostitution.

    Residents living near a care home in Telford hope councillors will reject plans to create a "healthcare village" on the site.

    Rotherwood Healthcare, which owns Roden Hall Nursing home, wants to build a new 66-bed facility to replace the current building and build new bungalows.

    It says the new facility would safeguard jobs, but some people who live locally say there isn't enough infrastructure in the village to cope.

    Parish councillors have responded to complaints on social media that Hadley Cemetery isn't open at weekends or in the evening.

    Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council say the site is open to the public around the clock, but is only staffed from 0900 to 1700, Monday to Friday.
