    The newly-elected leader of Shropshire Council, Peter Nutting, says the idea of having an airport in the county is worth looking into. 

    He thinks Shropshire could do with better provision for aircraft, especially if Sleap airfield, near Wem is closed.

    Mr Nutting says there is a problem at Sleap with sand and gravel deposits underneath the airfield.

    Bridgnorth's bypass is to get its first significant overhaul in more than 30 years since it was built. 

    The A458 will be resurfaced and repainted, river and railway bridges repaired, and street lights updated.

    AFC Telford United say Josh Wilson has not been offered a new deal, external and will be leaving the club this summer.

    Manager Rob Smith has allowed the striker to move on, so he can be closer to his Merseyside home.

    Wilson was last season's top scorer with eight goals and the boss says he's played a "massive part" in keeping the Bucks in the National League North over the last two years.

    Engineers are trying to repair a burst water pipe, external near the Stiperstones.

    Severn Trent says it could mean water supplies are off or at low pressure in the surrounding Minsterley and Snailbeach areas. 

    A small stretch of road has been closed between Stiperstones village and Perkins Beach.

    The New Saints manager Craig Harrison steered his side to the club's sixth consecutive Welsh Premier League title this season, winning by a record margin of 27 points.

    As a reward he's been shortlisted for Manager of the Year - an award he could win for the third year in a row.

  8. Rare film showing: The elephant that's not in the roompublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    A film of an elephant lumbering along a lane near Bishop's Castle is just some of the amazing footage which is being used to bring India to parts of rural Herefordshire and Worcestershire. 

    The pre-war footage of the elephant was unearthed in an archive project run by Flicks in the Sticks, external, a charity which shows feature films in village halls and community centres across the Marches region.

    The film is one of a series of films, including Bollywood blockbusters, being shown to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Indian independence.

    Most of the venues are also adding Indian food and drink as part of the world cinema celebrations.

    The project, which runs from May to July, has been funded by the British Film Institute.

    Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery is linking up with the local charity Signal, external to develop training for staff so they can support visitors with hearing loss. 

    The training's taking place as part of Deaf Awareness Week, external across the country.

    Signal says it estimates that one in five people in Shropshire lives with hearing loss.  

  10. Mental health computer systems restored after cyber-attackpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 16 May 2017

    The South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which runs mental health and learning disability services, says IT systems are now back online following the global cyber-attack. 

    Workers couldn't access computer records, external or landline phones, which use internet access on Friday.

    The trust says staff worked "around the clock" to get programmes up and running again.

    Pub regulars say they're delighted with the launch of their community bid to take over a Shropshire alehouse.

    Crews have been out dealing with a fire in Oswestry town centre.

    Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service says the problem was caused by an unattended toaster.

    Part of Cross Street had to be closed earlier, but it took firefighters just under half an hour to deal with the problem and re-open the road.

    Ice hockey fans in Telford are waiting to see how the sport will look next season.

    Telford Tigers have been disbanded, external, along with the English Premier League which they won last season.

    The team will still have two teams playing at the town's ice rink, but in what had been lower divisions until now.

    That means the budget for bringing in players won't be as high, but it could be a boost for developing local players here in Shropshire.

    The National Ice Hockey League only allows two imported players, compared to five in last years set up.

    Peter Nutting, who was elected as Shropshire Council's leader last night says there was "nothing wrong" with the job done by his predecessor Malcolm Pate.

    He says Mr Pate's role in steadying the ship over the last 18 months was respected by colleagues, but that a change was needed in order to "drive things forward."

    Former Shropshire Council leader Malcolm Pate says he lost last night's election to keep his job by five votes.

    Peter Nutting, who is the Conservative member for Copthorne in Shrewsbury won by 26 votes to 21.

    A Shropshire community is launching a campaign to save its local pub. 

    The Railway Inn at Yorton has been run by the same family for 80 years but it's now under threat because they've decided to sell up.  

    More than 200 people met at Clive Village Hall with some forced to watch and listen from outside. 

    They will now put together a Community Co-operative bid to buy the pub.
