    The story about the NHS turning down a donation to Ludlow hospital, because it was raised by men dressed as female nurses, is continuing to get you talking on our Facebook page, external.

    The chief executive of the Shropshire Community Health Trust said it was "demeaning" and "insulting" to nurses, but we're seeing a few nurses get in touch, to say they disagree.

    Julia Gladwell wrote: "I am a nurse and certainly don't feel demeaned."

    Sally-Ann Gandecha added: "As a someone who has been nursing since 1981 thanks guys for your generous donation and providing a bit of humour."

    And there have been plenty of suggestions about where the cash should go instead, with Lisa McAleavy suggesting: "I'd take the money raised, dress yourselves up again, walk into Ludlow hospital give the patients and staff a laugh when you walk on the wards and dish the cash out to the patients and staff there."

    The Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst has thanked the club's chairman for his backing after he paid out for striker Stefan Payne and defender Omar Beckles.

    The team has now added 13 new faces in the transfer window and Hurst said it showed Roland Wycherley (pictured below) was committed to improving their fortunes on the pitch.

    Beckles joined yesterday for an undisclosed fee from Accrington Stanley, with the player saying Shrewsbury had made a number of attempts to land him over the summer.

    A jury-led inquest will be held in October into the death of two men in a plane-crash near Shifnal.

    The light aircraft was on its way from Market Drayton to Shifnal airfield in May 2016 when it is thought to have entered a spin.

    Two people on board, pilot Tony Crocombe and passenger Michael Sumner, sustained fatal injuries in the crash in a field.

  4. Heritage railway announces 'night-time steaming' line-uppublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 23 August 2017

    Four visiting locomotives, including one from the Ffestiniog Railway in Wales, will take part in the Severn Valley Railway's Autumn Steam Gala, external.

    The heritage line will also be running trains through the night (as pictured) on Friday 22 September and Saturday 23 September.

    The "guest" locomotives at the gala will be:

    It will be in the best interests of Ludlow hospital if a compromise can be found following the rejection of a £2,500 donation, the Chairman of the Hospital League of Friends has said.

    The Shropshire Community Health Trust chief executive turned the money down because she wasn't happy that it was collected by men dressed as female nurses, saying it was "demeaning" and "insulting to the profession".

    Peter Corfield, from the charity that is behind the annual fundraising event, said the money it had raised in the past had paid for all the beds in the hospital and funded the relatives' room and dialysis unit.

    He said the Community Health Trust had recently asked for £155,000 to pay for new X-ray equipment

    And he pointed out that the League of Friends funds now included the £2,500 raised and asked if that meant all future donations might be "tainted" in the eyes of the NHS trust.

  8. New stadium would allow sports clubs to 'match their desires'published at 11:32 British Summer Time 23 August 2017

    The New Saints owner, Mike Harris, said his club could benefit from having a new stadium in Oswestry - because their current Park Hall stadium can't host big European matches because of UEFA rules.

    He said "the town misses out on a very big pay day" because the matches have to be played elsewhere.

    Mr Harris is looking at the possibility of a new stadium on the derelict Smithfield site and he said TNS, FC Oswestry Town and the local rugby club all had ambitions to grow, but "require infrastructure to match those desires".

    The chairman of a charity that raised £2,500 from a group of men dressed up as nurses says he has received interest from other hospitals keen to accept the cash.

    Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust, which runs Ludlow Hospital, said the behaviour was "insulting" to the nursing profession and it would not be right to accept "any money associated with this activity" .

    A teenage motorcyclist has been badly hurt after crashing into a tree in Telford.

    Emergency crews arrived to find an 18-year-old man with multiple injuries.

    He was treated at the scene before being anaesthetised and taken to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

    The owner of The New Saints is interested in the idea of building a new stadium on Oswestry's empty Smithfield site.

    Plans to build a supermarket, cinema and restaurants there collapsed and the landowners, Oswestry Town Council put the site up for sale again last year.

    Mike Harris said TNS, FC Oswestry Town and the local rugby club have been approached to see if they "have an appetite to develop the site" and he added "we're all ears".

    And he said it would help all three clubs to have a "purpose built stadium."

  13. More training for bikers needed after increase in accidentspublished at 09:53 British Summer Time 23 August 2017

    Motorcyclists are being encouraged to have extra training after a spike in the number of accidents in Shropshire.

    The latest figures - compiled by the government from 2015, external - show 50 bikers were killed or seriously injured in the county.

    In 2012 that number was 39.

    Plans to build 120 homes in Newport are pushing ahead, despite objections from locals.

    The proposals for Station Road were pulled earlier this month as ecology reports weren't up to date.

    The land is owned by Telford and Wrekin Council and had previously been earmarked for a supermarket site.

    The application by St Modwen Developments has been tweaked and will go back before councillors later this month.

    Ludlow hospital fundraisers hope a "middle-ground" can be found following the rejection of money raised by men dressed up as female nurses.

    The trust that runs Ludlow hospital, turned down £2,500 because of the "insulting" and "outdated" behaviour.

    Its chief executive, Jan Ditheridge says “it isn’t okay to portray healthcare professionals in this way".

    Market Drayton Town beat Sporting Khalsa from Willenhall in last night's FA Cup preliminary round.

    The game ended in a 2-2 draw - with Market Drayton going through 4-1 on penalties.
