    A stone-painting group recently set up in Telford is going to get involved in fundraising for charity.

    Shropshire Rocks encourages people to leave decorated rocks in public places around the county to spread a bit of happiness and has gained nearly 15,000 members since it was launched on 30 July.

  3. 'Dracula' responds to Shropshire stone-painterpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    Shropshire's stone-painting craze is spreading far and wide since its launch last month and has even come to the attention of Dracula, in his castle in Transylvania.

    Chris Gill from Telford painted this little stone and it was left at Castle Dracula by his mother-in-law when she visited last week.

    She also posted a photo in the Shropshire Rocks Facebook group, external.

    And the stone was found by an actor who dresses up as the vampire to entertain visitors to the castle, who posted this message on Facebook.

    Shropshire Rocks was set up by Rachel Hales from Telford and invites people to decorate stones and leave them in public places to spread a bit of happiness.

    It now has nearly 15,000 members.

  4. Rejected hospital donation was to fund new ECG machinespublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    The Ludlow Hospital League of Friends says the £2,500 it raised through its annual bed push this summer was to pay for new ECG machines at Ludlow hospital.

    The chief executive of the Shropshire Community Health Trust, Jan Ditheridge, turned the money down, because she wasn't happy that it was raised by men dressed as female nurses, saying it was "very inappropriate" and "insulting to the profession".

    Ms Ditheridge wrote a letter to the league of friends saying she had made it clear last year that she had concerns about the men in drag.

    But Peter Corfield, the chair of the fundraising group said he'd received "no formal complaint" other than concerns expressed at the end of a meeting and that he had promised the men taking part would "tone it down" this year.

  5. Hospital turns down 'demeaning' fancy dress nurses' donationpublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    A hospital has turned down a £2,500 donation from a group of men dressed up as nurses because bosses said their outfits were "totally demeaning".

    The group, which was supporting Ludlow Hospital, raised the money by pushing a bed around the town - a tradition that has run for more than 25 years.

    But Jan Ditheridge, the chief executive of the Shropshire Community Health Trust, said their decision to dress in short nurses uniforms was "very inappropriate" and "insulting to the profession" and that the trust wanted "no part of it".

    Peter Corfield from the Ludlow Hospital League of Friends, said it was a "sad day for public support for our health services."

    He said the bed-push had taken place every summer for decades and was a "light-hearted fundraiser".

    Shrewsbury and Telford hospitals trust has appointed a spokesperson for young people.

    Laura Sheldon is just 19, but has already been a member of the UK Youth Parliament and a Young Health Champion.

    She's joined the trust as an apprentice, and will also be an advocate of mental health awareness.

    National Express says traffic has become so bad in parts of the West Midlands buses on some of its routes have an average speed of less than 6mph.

    The company says some routes are 10 minutes slower than they were just three years ago, adding it is concerned the situation will lead encourage bus users to switch to cars.

    A woman who says she wasn't allowed on a bus because she was breastfeeding says she's determined to carry on feeding her son in public.

    Katherine Guest said the bus driver in Bridgnorth wouldn't let her on because he said her baby might choke.

    The company that runs the service, Arriva, says it's investigating the incident and Katherine says they've apologised.

    If you're heading to uni this year, University Centre Shrewsbury has a list of essential items you'll need.

    It includes things like a USB memory stick, a mobile phone charger and a laptop, which it says "is bound to become your most prized possession whilst at university".

    There are also items students have been packing for generations, such as posters, cushions and cutlery. The centre, which is an off-shoot of the University of Chester, also suggests the new students pack plenty of food, but points out that there are also plenty of places to eat in the centre of town.

    A horse, a car and a speed camera are among the latest list of items reported to have been stolen from West Mercia Police.

    The figures, for the last two-and-a-half years, also record the theft of a police baton, a finger print kit, and a bicycle.

    From the start of 2015, 31 items were reported stolen by the force, with a third of them later being recovered.

    Shrewsbury Town are close to making another signing, as Paul Hurst looks to build on his positive start to the new season.

    Chief executive Brian Caldwell isn't revealing publicly who it is, but says there is "still definitely business to be done" before the transfer window shuts.
