    Tradespeople are being asked what they think of proposed changes Shropshire Council's system of parking permits.

    At the moment people who want to park in Shropshire Council car parks, on-street parking bays, loading bays or resident-only bays pay £10 a day and those who want to stop on double or single yellow lines or a disabled bat pay £15.

    The authority is proposing replacing that with a flat rate of £20, which will cover them to park in any of those places.

    It says any extra money generated would be reinvested in improvements to car parks and to the parking service.

    AFC Telford United players have welcomed the increase in training to four nights a week, even though they are on part-time contracts.

    It's been a change introduced by new manager Rob Edwards and midfielder Elliot Newby said it was a "brilliant progression" which will help them improve as players.

  6. Folk festival to explore traditions of black-faced morris dancerspublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    A year after causing controversy by banning morris dancers with black face paint, on the grounds it could cause racial offence, Shrewsbury Folk Festival will host a display which explores the origins of the tradition.

    It has been put together by artist Faye Claridge from Birmingham, who is the daughter of a morris dancer, and it invites visitors to record their own thoughts on the subject.

    Contributors will be able to stand in front of a green screen and record their comments in front of any place in the world, or leave messages in a comments box, or on social media.

    Defender Omar Beckles says he knew about the interest from Shrewsbury Town before the season started and that he was keen to make the move up from League Two.

    His previous club Accrington Stanley turned down a couple of opening bids before eventually accepting an undisclosed fee.

    An artist's impression has been released of a woman wanted in connection with an attempted robbery near Oswestry.

    The police say the victim, who was in his 30s, stopped to offer help to a woman standing near the road to Glyn Ceirog on 7 June, because she was looking distressed.

    An unknown man then held him down while the woman attempted to steal things from his vehicle.

    The man managed to regain control of his car and drive off before they could take anything, but police are describing it as a "nasty incident which was very distressing for the victim".

    They celebrate the UK's favourite toys from the past 100 years and also include the Sindy doll and Action Man, as well as brands like Spirograph, Stickle Bricks and Fuzzy Felt.

    A man who left an abusive and threatening voicemail message for Telford MP Lucy Allan has been jailed.

    Zakariyya Farah from London was given a 15-month sentence by Southwark Crown Court after being found guilty of sending malicious communications.

    The Metropolitan Police said the call was made on 7 December 2015, but Farah had denied it was him that made the it, even though he admitting his phone had been used.

    A forensic speech analyst told the court there was evidence to suggest it was his voice on the messages.

    The decision of health bosses to turn down a donation to Ludlow hospital on the grounds that it was raised by men in "demeaning" nurse costumes has provoked a lot of comment on our Facebook page., external

    And they all agree it was the wrong decision.

    Tracy Morgan Jones wrote: "It's money raised in a fun way in a costume meant to draw attention to the worthy cause not insult the hard-working doctors and nurses."

    The trust which runs the hospital said it took the decision because it was "insulting to the profession", but Gemma Davies commented: "I'm a nurse and am not at all insulted. How stupid!"

    And others suggested the money would be welcome elsewhere. Ann Lanham wrote: "I'm sure there are plenty of other good causes in the area who will be willing to accept the money."

    Fans who are trying to raise £75,000 to install around 500 rail seats at Shrewsbury Town's stadium say they might look for other sources of funding after admitting they'd got off to a slow start.

    At the half-way point it has only collected £19,105, but Chris Wynn from the Shrewsbury Town Supporter's Parliament said they had other fundraising ideas up their sleeves and that they had discussed "various options" to make up any shortfall.
