    Police officers are always held accountable for their use of force, West Mercia Police has said, following the release of figures covering this spring.

    Ch Supt Steve Cullen said they are well-trained and experienced and they use their judgement "in trying to resolve situations peacefully".

    The figures show "unarmed tactics" like wrist locks were used 1,400 times between April and June, with handcuffs used more than 1,000 times and CS spray around 100 times.

    AFC Telford United have brought in another Wolves player on loan.

    Central defender Connor Johnson will be the third Wolves player on their books and joins for just a month.

    The 19-year-old is their under-23s captain and has signed up in time for tonight's match against Nuneaton Town.

    Earlier this year Wolves increased their financial support to Telford and the Bucks manager was replaced by Wolves coach, Rob Edwards.

  4. Investigation after porn appears on council's digital signpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    An investigation is underway after pornographic images appeared on one of Telford and Wrekin Council's digital signs.

    The authority said it had referred the matter to the police and cut all its digital signs off from the internet after the discovery was made yesterday.

    The offending sign was in the new Southwater development and it's not clear at this stage if someone hacked into the council website to display the images on it.

    Five vehicles have been involved in a crash on the A49 on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

    One person has been cut free from the wreckage and was taken to hospital with chest pain.

    The accident involved three vans and two cars and closed the road between the Battlefield Island and the Sundorne Island at around 08:30.

  7. Fans appeal needs to raise £30,000 in seven dayspublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    With a week to go, Shrewsbury Town fans' bid to raise £75,000 to create a safe-standing section at the club has reached just shy of the 60% mark.

    The club's Supporter's Parliament group started a six-week online appeal on 1 August, with the aim of using the money to rip out the old seats and replace them with rail seating.

    Shrewsbury Town initially said it would leave the fundraising to the fans, but last week donated £20,000 to the cause, bringing the total to £44,245.

  8. Sharp rise in hospital parking charges from todaypublished at 09:44 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    Parking charges at the orthopaedic hospital in Oswestry go up by a quarter today.

    Parking for a day will now cost £2.50 instead of £2, with weekly tickets staying at £8.

    The hospital says the prices are lower than other hospitals in the region and that this is the first rise in a decade.

    The number of people needing care after being discharged from hospital has more than doubled in the Shropshire Council area over the past year.

    The figures are in a report to be discussed by the authority's ruling Conservative cabinet tomorrow.

    Councillors will also be told that, like other authorities, it is facing a significant increase in the cost of care.

  10. Wrist locks and handcuffs used the most by the police, figures showpublished at 09:05 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    West Mercia Police say only 2% of the incidents it dealt with this summer involved the use of force.

    Figures for April to June show handcuffs were used more than 1,000 times, with "unarmed skills" such as wrist locks used 1,400 times.

    CS spray was used 100 times and Tasers eight times.

    The classic police baton was only drawn 41 times out of a total of more than 66,000 incidents across the force area.

    AFC Telford United are in action this evening as they travel to Nuneaton Town.

    The Bucks have won three times on the road this season, despite losing all home matches.

    The former AFC Telford United striker Kyle Perry is likely to be playing against them in the FA Cup in a fortnight's time.

    The 31-year-old has recently joined Barwell, who have been drawn against the Bucks in the second qualifying round.

    Perry has had two spells with Telford, the first over a decade ago, when he was still a teenager, under Bernard McNally.

    Since that first appearance at the Bucks Head he has played for about a dozen clubs.

    The Hereford and Worcester Fire Authority has joined criticism of plans to hand over control of fire services in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire to the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner.

    It questioned claims by the PCC that it would save more than £4m a year and said the proposals lacked detail.
