    The first batch of brand new trains for the East Coast mainline are rolling off the production line this lunchtime. 

    The Virgin trains, called Azuma, will allow extra services - and it's also claimed they'll cut journey times on Leeds to London services by about 15 minutes. 

    They'll be operating on the East Coast mainline from 2018.

    South Yorkshire Police have issued a fresh appeal, external for help in finding a missing Rotherham man a fortnight after he went missing because he will be in urgent need of medication. 

    Daniel Higgs, 32, was last seen on 23 November on Bridgegate in Rotherham town centre. 

    Posters have been circulated by officers at local businesses and homeless shelters across Rotherham and Doncaster.

    A bunch of celebrities spent last night sleeping rough in Sheffield city centre. 

    Lucky for them they picked a mild one! 

    They were aiming to raise £25,000 - and so far they've got about £18,000.

    Just a few of those swapping their plush matresses and feather pillows for a far less comfortable night's sleep were:

    • Ryan Rhodes, ex-British and European light-middleweight boxing title holder 
    • Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder
    • Chris Waddle, ex-England and Sheffield Wednesday footballer 
    • Liam Palmer, Sheffield Wednesday footballer 
    • And Julie Dore, leader of Sheffield City Council, was serving tea and soup! 
  5. Sheffield Ski Village: 'Could help bring on the next generation of British skiers'published at 11:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2016

    Freestyle skiers Katie and Molly Summerhayes say Sheffield Ski Village played a "massive part" in developing their careers.

    The Sheffield-born sisters, who began skiing at the village as young children, have gone on to represent Great Britain at international level, with Katie competing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

    They say redeveloping the former ski village site as a snow sports centre, one of a number of ideas put forward by Sheffield City Council, could help bring on the next generation of British skiers.

    Sheffield Council want to revitalise the old ski village site. 

    Ideas include returning skiing to the area and developing a downhill mountain biking centre. 

    Problem is, the council don't have money to pay for the transformation, so they're seeking private investors.

    Lawyers for two brothers who were placed in custody after a violent attack in Edlington in 2009 when they were 10 and 11 years old are at the High Court court today asking for a lifelong ban on revealing their identity

    The brothers tortured two other young boys in the village of Edlington in 2009.

    They were sentenced to an indeterminate period in custody, with a minimum of five years. A court order made at the time granted them anonymity until they were both 18. 

    As the younger of the two brothers approaches his 18th birthday, lawyers are claiming that identifying them would breach various sections of the Human Rights Act.

    An event is taking place today in South Yorkshire aimed at helping victims of abuse in the county.

    The Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings is hosting the Rotherham event which is aimed at providing information on the services available.

    During the day there will be talks from a number of experts including the government's Victims’ Commissioner Baroness Newlove.

    It closed in 2012 after a series of arson attacks and possibilities for the site include returning skiing to the area and developing a downhill mountain biking centre. 

    Sheffield City Council don't have any money so deputy council leader Leigh Bramall is looking for investors to help transform the derelict site.

    He says there's biking routes in the area, but they're open to ideas:

    There's one lane closed and stop-start traffic on M1 northbound between J36, A61 (Birdwell) and J37, A628 (Barnsley), because of an earlier accident, which is now on the hard shoulder.

    Plans to transform Sheffield's former Ski Village into an outdoor adventure centre have been revealed.

    The city council wants a developer to turn the 30-acre site into a "nationally significant attraction", including the possibility of building a snow sports centre.

    The ski village has lain derelict since it was destroyed by a fire in 2012.

    Councillor Leigh Bramall said he hoped it could become "the jewel in the crown of The Outdoor City".
