    Crewe Alexandra's manager Steve Davis says he thinks it's a big ask of his squad to have to play three games in their build up to Saturday's FA Cup tie at Cheltenham.

    The Alex are involved in the Cheshire Senior Cup and FA Youth Cup tonight and have already played an Under-23 game this week at Huddersfield.

  4. Jobs go as National Trust's Shugborough takeover completedpublished at 17:48 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2016

    The National Trust has officially taken back control of the Shugborough Estate today. 

    It comes after Staffordshire County Council handed back the site after 50 years, saying it had been losing about £650,000 a year running it.

    As a result of the move, 56 people have lost their jobs. 

    The National Trust says the attraction has now been closed over the winter, external while maintenance work is carried out and is set to reopen in March.

    Search parties have spent the day trying to locate a missing man from Staffordshire.

    It's been a week since Joshua Smith, 27, was reported missing and he was last seen crossing railway lines near his home in Stone.

    The man in charge of Stafford Borough Council is to step down this week after 40 years working, external in local government.

    Ian Thompson, 64, will officially retire as the authority's chief executive on Friday. 

    Tim Clegg, who's currently a director at Derby City Council, will take over the role from Monday.

    A man is in a critical condition in hospital after an attack in Stafford , externalleft him with "significant life-threatening head injuries".

    Staffordshire Police say the 22-year-old from Stone was assaulted outside The Grapes Hotel on Bridge Street on Sunday morning.

    They say that caused him to fall down and he was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital where his family are with him now. 

    Officers arrested a 24-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of assault and he's been released on bail.

    Stoke City's Ramadan Sobhi has been called up by Egypt coach Hector Cuper for the side's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Ghana on 13 November.

    Five teenagers have reportedly attacked a taxi driver, external in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Staffordshire Police say the group first threw eggs at the taxi when it was on Weston Road, Meir on Sunday afternoon. 

    When it stopped, officers say the driver was assaulted and, when one of the passengers tried to help him, someone got into the vehicle and stole his takings.

    The vicar of a Staffordshire Moorlands church says they're able to ring their bells again thanks to the generosity of local people and businesses.

    The six 18th century bells at St Mary and All Saints Church in Checkley, external have been restored at a cost of around £106,000. 

    Vicar Irene Smith says the bells were silent for 12 years until recently and now they're on the look out for more bell ringers to stop them falling silent again.

    Jeremy Hunt has accepted an invitation from a Stoke-on-Trent Labour MP to visit the Royal Stoke University Hospital and see the "crisis" there.

    The Health Secretary was taking questions in the House of Commons when the Stoke Central MP Tristram Hunt asked him. 

    Mr Hunt drew attention to long waiting times in the hospital's A&E unit, adding that Jeremy Hunt should see the "the crisis in the funding settlement" and its impact on residents.
