    Moving Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service's training centre would have left the organisation "about £5m out of pocket", the county's Chief Fire Officer Paul Hancock says.

    In September, officials announced they were shelving proposals to move some staff and their training centre to the nearby police headquarters in Winsford. 

    The training centre is now staying in its original place. 

    The majority of staff are moving to new shared headquarters next year.

  3. Stoke-on-Trent named 'one of worst areas' for prescription fraudpublished at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2016

    Stoke-on-Trent is one of the worst areas in the country for prescription fraud, according to the NHS. 

    The NHS Business Services Authority, external says it has picked the city to try out a new campaign aimed at stopping people claiming free prescriptions that they're not entitled to.

    Across England, the authority says patient prescription charge fraud costs the NHS £200m and people can get penalty charges of up to £100. 

    It says Stoke-on-Trent's one of four areas where the largest number of penalty notices have been issued.

    Stafford College, external is under new management today.

    Managers at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, external say it has officially merged with them today, adding that the names and the branding will stay the same.

    Between them they say they'll have 5,500 full time and 3,000 part-time students.

    In a statement, Newcastle-under-Lyme College say there'll be no impact on lessons and the day-to-day running of courses

    People wanting to dispose of DIY and landscaping waste in Staffordshire at the county council's recycling centres are facing new charges from today., external

    They mean getting rid of plasterboard will cost £4 a sheet, tyres £4 each and it'll cost £3 to get rid of big bags of soil or rubble at the sites.

    The council says the charges will cover the cost of processing such waste and it will be applied at all the authority's waste recycling centres. 

    Critics have told BBC Radio Stoke they fear it'll lead to an increase in fly tipping - officials say they'll monitor the situation.

    Traffic lights, pedestrian crossing lights and railings have been, external "demolished" by a lorry in Leek which police say then didn't stop.

    Staffordshire Police say it happened yesterday afternoon as the HGV was going from Cheddleton Road to Junction Road and struggled to get around the corner. 

    The force says the lorry was loaded with pipes and continued along Junction Road after the crash leaving the pavement "totally blocked".

    More than 200 people turned out this weekend to help search for Joshua Smith, 27, who was last seen crossing railway lines near his home in the town last Tuesday.

    Staffordshire Police they'll be carrying out checks close to that place as they try to jog people's memories with his family adding that they are desperate to find him.

    Firefighters have been tackling a chemical fire at a processing plant in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent this morning.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service say their crews were called to the Sneyd Hill Trading Estate just after 07:30 this morning and a warehouse "well alight". 

    The service say it started accidentally due to a chemical reaction involving waste chemicals, adding that it is now under control.

    A Stafford wildlife campaigner is asking drivers to slow down and help reduce the number of animal deaths on our roads. 

    Autumn is the time of year when young foxes, badgers and hedgehogs start to leave their homes and wander further afield - and the darker evenings don't help either.
