    Fire crews have attended the site of a former rubbish blaze in Staffordshire.

    Crews were called to Oak Tree Farm, Rugeley, this morning, after one of the stacks was disturbed and smoke was released, more than two months after the fire started.

    The stack that had previously been capped was disturbed overnight and a small section, away from the main pile, began to release smoke again. A digger will return to the site tomorrow to re-cap the stack, which should take one day to complete."

    The fire - made up of 1,000 tonnes of waste, mainly shredded wood - started at Oak Tree Farm in Rugeley on 5 September.

    On Friday, two men from Birmingham were jailed for three years for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

    People across the country paused at 11:00 to remember the nation's war dead.

    People gathered at war memorials and in schools, offices and other public places across the UK paused for two minutes to commemorate the moment the guns fell silent for peace at the end of World War One, on 11 November 1918.  

    Hundreds gathered in Stafford town centre.

    Norovirus has affected the Royal Stoke University Hospital, leading to the closure of three wards.

    Health bosses are asking people who think they may have symptoms of the winter vomiting bug to stay away, to help stop its spread, external.  

    Emyr Phillips, Associate Chief Nurse, said the disease was "more contagious than the common cold and can be more severe for vulnerable patients".

    Figures released yesterday by NHS England showed the Royal Stoke University Hospital had one of the poorest performing A&Es in the country, in terms of waiting times.

    Two men have been jailed for three years each after throwing a package of heroin out on to the M6 motorway in July.

    Kasar Jehangir and Adil Aftab, both from Birmingham, admitted possession with intent to supply Class A drugs at Birmingham Crown Court.

    Staffordshire Police say the men were arrested in July after following a car travelling over 120 mph and weaving in between lanes.

    After an unmarked police car tried to pull-over the driver, a 34g package of heroin was thrown out of the car window, causing clouds of brown dust, officers said.

    The M6 southbound was closed around junction 12 while the drugs were recovered.

    Three hospital wards at the Royal Stoke University Hospital have had to be closed due to the winter vomiting bug, norovirus.

    University Hospitals of North Midlands is advising any visitors if they feel unwell and suffering with diarrhoea or vomiting not to visit.

    A spokesman for the hospital says 77 beds have had to be put out of use on the wards while the three wards are cleaned.

    Legendary Stoke City and England midfielder Alan Hudson has been taken to hospital in London, suffering with chest pains.

    Hudson, who also played for Chelsea and Arsenal, made over 100 appearances for Stoke between 1974 and 1976.

    Three former service men stood solemn and still next to the war memorial in Hanley at 11:00.

    More than 100 people gathered outside the Town Hall to remember servicemen and women killed in battle. Passers-by, people on the way to the shops, a woman pushing a pram stopped in their tracks by the echo of silence in the town, still.
