    Thousands of people across the Midlands have come together to mark Armistice Day. 

    One of the biggest gatherings was at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire where Prince Harry attended the commemorations.

    The Alex manager Steve Davis sent his head of recruitment Neil Baker to watch Stoke City's game against Bury on Tuesday.

    Cheshire Police has apologised after tweeting during the Armistice Day two-minute silence at 11:00.

    The force tweeted "speed inforcement on A49 at Beeston" at 11:01 according to Twitter's timestamp., external

    The force tweeted shortly after receiving criticism from Twitter users saying, external "We’ve taken a look and it was issued before the 2 mins silence. Regrettably, there was a delay in it appearing. Please accept our apologies."

    A charity in Stafford has told BBC Radio Stoke it's feeding hundreds of people each month, using food discarded by supermarkets. 

    The Surplus Kitchen, external takes stock from stores which is past its sell-by-date and creates meals served at Rising Brook Church on Sundays. 

    Paying customers can choose to pay extra to fund a meal for someone in need.

    There's a queue out of the door when we open the doors at 12:30 on a Sunday. There's often more than 100 people - we serve them real quick, charging £5 for adults and £2 for children and there's the option to give more with a Pay It Forward scheme for those who are vulnerable or just need a helping hand."

    People have travelled from not just all over the country, but from all over the world to be here at the annual Armistice service at the National Memorial Arboretum.

    Joining them will be senior military personnel, Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant as well as HRH Prince Harry. 

    Although there are thousands here, there's a real sense of peace, tranquility and undoubtedly, pride from those in attendance.

    An elderly man who arranged for a tree to be chopped down was left stunned when the work cost £4,500, after signing a cheque, rather than the agreed £200.

    Staffordshire Police say the men, believed to be father and son, are thought to be trading under the name, Maple Leaf Tree Care.

    Three war memorials in north Staffordshire have been given special protection by Historic England., external

    The war memorial at the church of St Edwards in Leek is one of many across the country to be given listed status which is part of a special protection project to list 2,500 of the country's memorials to mark the centenary of the end of World War One in 2018. 

    Along with ones in Tittensor and Uttoxetter (pictured) - 10 in Staffordshire have been recognised by Historic England.

    The charity is also encouraging people to put their local memorial forward for heritage listing to help preserve them for the future.
