    Crewe manager, Steve Davis, says he won't risk a fine for making more than the maximum six changes for tonight's EFL Trophy game at home to Chesterfield. 

    Crewe have Ollie Turton, George Ray and Chris Dagnall all struggling with injuries ahead of the game. 

    Davis says it'll provide an opportunity for some of the other players in his squad.

    Issues with benefit payments accounted for almost half of all food bank referrals in Stoke-on-Trent in the last six months, the trust running it says.

    More than 5,000 emergency food parcels were handed out - that's 10% more than last year, according to the Trussell Trust. 

    The charity now wants a telephone "hotline" to local Job Centres to support people in crisis quicker.

    A 32-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent is in stable condition in hospital after going into cardiac arrest while driving, the ambulance service say.

    His BMW hit a stationary car on Hilton Road, in Hartshill, at about 09:30. The road was closed for abour four hours.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service say nurses were already carrying out CPR when they arrived on scene.

    The views of the potteries industry will be heard in the run-up to leaving the EU, according to the business secretary. 

    Greg Clark was replying to a question from Stoke South MP, Rob Flello, who said the trade is concerned about the impact of Brexit.

    Port Vale will be looking to progress to the knockout stages of the EFL Trophy tonight as they travel to Doncaster. 

    The Vale know they need to win at the Keepmoat Stadium to definitely go through. 

    First-team coach, Andy Smith, told BBC Radio Stoke that it's a good chance for the players to impress after a poor performance on Saturday.

  11. Ambulance staff abuse up by a quarterpublished at 15:37 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2016

    There's been a 27% increase in the number of cases where staff have been verbally abused or threatened over the last year, North West Ambulance Service has told the BBC. 

    There were 755 incidents of aggression reported and nearly 400 physical assaults. 

    The service has made a video featuring the children of ambulance workers, in the hope it will stop the rise in attacks.

    A 32-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent is in stable condition in hospital after his BMW hit a stationary car in Hartshill.

    Police say he suffered a "medical emergency" while driving on Hilton Road around 09:30.

    The road was closed until just before 14:00 for collision investigation work.

    Former Stoke defender, Mike Pejic, wants striker Wilfried Bony to be more consistent after the international break. 

    Bony scored his first two goals for the club in last week's win against Swansea. 

    Pejic told Sport at Six on BBC Radio Stoke last night he wants Bony to play like that more regularly.

    A 31-year-old van driver from Willaston who died after a collision with a lorry on the A500 was engaged to be married, police say. 

    Neil Dey died in hospital following the collision early yesterday morning near the M6 at junction 16.

    An increase in people needing support from Stoke-on-Trent's foodbank means it needs more help meeting demand. 

    In the first six months of the year 5,302 three-day supply packs were handed out, compared to 4,789 during the same period in 2015.

    The Trussell Trust says around half the requests for help were because of delays or changes to people's benefits.

    It's not everyday you see someone canoeing down a canal, but that may soon change in Staffordshire.

    A project to mark the heritage of the 250-year-old Trent and Mersey Canal has been launched.

    It means people will be able to paddle the 20-mile length from Stoke-on-Trent to Froghall.

    It's also hoped it will encourage people to get active and take to the waterways.
