  1. Crimes 'caught up' with sexual offenderpublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2016

    Police have said the crimes committed by a convicted Stoke-on-Trent child sexual offender have "now caught up with him".

    Michael Shallcross, 61, from Taylor Street in Goldenhill, was sentenced after the culmination of two trials. 

    He was found guilty of all 19 charges. His six victims ranged in age from six to 15.

    Det Insp Lisa Cumberbatch, of Staffordshire Police, hoped the sentencing brought comfort to the victims and their families

    "Their bravery in coming forward and disclosing what happened to them is to be commended and I hope it encourages other victims to speak out," she said.

    A Staffordshire Moorlands care home has been praised nationally for its new building design, external.

    Churnet Lodge is part of Barrowhill Hall near Rocester and features dementia-friendly designs like curved corridors, soft coloured walls and fluid floor coverings.

    It's all aimed at making life simpler for patients - the semi-circle layout helps patients understand their way around.

    Some army units based in Telford are moving to Stafford as part of a review by the Ministry of Defence.

    The Royal Military Police units are likely to move to Beacon Barracks, along with the headquarters of the 11 Signal Brigade, the MoD says.

    It is so far unclear how many personnel are involved.

    A care home in Stoke is among those who've raised concerns about the building of 1,600 student flats just outside the town centre.

    The city council's planning committee granted permission in the last hour for seven buildings up to 10 storeys high on the former Minton Hollins tile factory site.

    Residents of St Dominics Court Care Home are worried an eighth building would block their view and cause extra noise. The home says it will work with developers.

    A Stoke-on-Trent man has been jailed for 15 years after being convicted of 19 sexual offences against girls as young as six. 

    Michael Shallcross, 61, from Taylor Street, Goldenhill, was sentenced after the culmination of two trials saw him convicted of offences including sexual assault, indecent assault and gross indecency against children.

    He was first arrested in October 2013 after a parent of one of the girls contacted Staffordshire Police.

    Business leaders in the West Midlands are at a post USA election breakfast this morning and there's been a mixed reaction to the overnight result.

    Paul Forrest from West Midlands Economic Forum said a Trump presidency could be good for exporters in the region.

    During the EU Referendum, President Obama warned that Britain would "go to the back of the queue" if people voted for Brexit. 

    However, speaking at the beginning of this month, Donald Trump's trade adviser said Britain would be first for a trade deal under a Trump presidency.

    The dangers of sepsis deserve greater attention, a leading doctor told BBC Radio Stoke this morning, after a bodybuilder said he nearly died because of a ladybird bite.

    Reza Rezamand, from Blythe Bridge, was rushed into hospital after his foot swelled up and went black - just days after handling the insect.

    Dr Ron Daniels, Chief Executive of the UK Sepsis Trust, said: "Reza's story is a striking reminder that sepsis can harm anyone, external.

    "There is an urgent need to improve public awareness. If a bite from something as commonplace as a ladybird can trigger a life-threatening situation, it’s imperative that we are all able to recognise the symptoms."

    Stone MP Sir Bill Cash says Donald Trump's election win can be compared to the Brexit vote in June.

    Sir Bill was a prominent campaigner for Brexit. He told BBC Radio Stoke's Morgan in the Morning that Mr Trump's win is good for our economy.

    The comparison with Brexit he said was "very important", because it was "completely contrary" to the predictions.
