    Cheshire Police has named a 31-year-old man from Willaston who died following a crash on the A500 near Crewe. 

    Neil Dey's van was in collision with a lorry just after 05:30 yesterday near the M6 at junction 16. 

    Police say he suffered serious injuries and died at Royal Stoke Hospital.

    The lorry driver sustained what are believed to be minor injuries and was treated at Leighton Hospital.

    A bodybuilder from Stoke-on-Trent says he almost died of sepsis only days after handling a ladybird. 

    Reza Rezamand, from Blythe Bridge, was rushed into hospital after his foot swelled up and went black last week. 

    One in three people don't survive the condition, external, and doctors believe it could have been triggered by a bite from the ladybird.

    The man in charge of keeping Staffordshire's roads moving has told me the authority is willing to "break the budget" to keep the roads frost free.

    I met Staffordshire county councillor Mark Deaville at the gritting depot in Leek, and he said "we grit to conditions, not to budget".

    There is a budget of £2.5m in place for gritting.

    A plan to shut more than 60 beds at a hospital in Newcastle next month - which has been referred to the health secretary - has been labelled "unsafe" by campaigners.

    Over 10,000 people signed a petition against the plans to close Bradwell Hospital, after the North Staffordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) opened a public consultation on its future. 

    The CCG says keeping wards there open is financially unsustainable.

    Forty-six-thousand children are living below the poverty line in north Staffordshire and south Cheshire, according to a pressure group.

    Stoke-on-Trent is one of the worst of the five local authority areas in the West Midlands, with 20,000 children living in poverty.

    Gritting teams across north Staffordshire were out overnight, as temperatures dropped below freezing. 

    Stoke-on-Trent City Council had its team of eight gritting trucks out from 18:00, and Staffordshire County Council were out across the district too. 

    The city council also has a 4x4 car with a grit trailer attached, to tackle narrow roads and streets.

    A plan to close more than 60 hospital beds in Newcastle has been referred to the health secretary, following a petition signed by more than 10,000 people. 

    The North Staffordshire Clinincal Commissioning Group is holding a public consultation on the future of Bradwell Hospital and says keeping wards there open is financially unsustainable. 

    Campaigners fighting the closure say community health services aren't sufficient to cope with treating patients at home.
