    A man from Crewe has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a search involving a police helicopter and dogs. 

    Cheshire Police say the 26-year-old was detained in the town after 21:00 last night and remains in custody.

    A man from Burton has been sentenced to three years in prison, external after a spate of house burglaries and car thefts across East Staffordshire. 

    Jordan Hart, 21, pleaded guilty at Stafford Crown Court to the three burglaries which took place last year.

    A Cheshire halfpipe skier who was a Winter Olympics hopeful in 2014 has been told the BBC how injuries she suffered changed her life and almost saw her leave the sport. 

    Alsager's Rowan Cheshire was being talked of as a medal prospect in Russia but made a mistake in training, landed on her head and woke up in hospital having suffered severe concussion.

    She suffered two more head injuries in the next 18 months and said they caused "severe side-effects" and almost ended her sporting career. 

    Now the 21-year-old says she is targeting a place at the Pyeongchang games, which start in a year's time on 9 February 2018.

    A dead pigeon, mouldy wet clothes, a tortoise and a wooden leg are among some of the more unusual items recently reported missing or handed into Staffordshire Police.

    More than 100 drivers have been caught using their mobile phones illegally by police in Cheshire. , external

    Officers took part in a national operation targeting people on their phones last month. 

    All the drivers who were stopped were issued with a penalty notice. 

    In March, the penalty for driving while using your phone doubles to six penalty points and a £200 fine.

    The son (pictured) of a Stoke-on-Trent woman, whose fatal spinal cancer, it's claimed, went undiagnosed for months, says he wants medics to admit they had made mistakes.

    The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust has promised an immediate investigation after Patricia Ann Whitehouse died on Tuesday.

    Her family say she went to her GP seven times in two months complaining of back pain and to hospital but was sent home with paracetamol.

    The 62-year-old was eventually told her condition was terminal in November after being diagnosed with two tumours on her right lung and one on her spine.

    Three women have been charged with attacking another woman in Burton. , external

    Staffordshire Police say the trio, all from the town, have been charged with offences including assault by beating and unlawfully and maliciously wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

    The force says the victim, a 27-year-old from Uttoxeter, was attacked on the High Street in November.

    The three women are due to appear before magistrates in March.

  10. Police pay out nearly £700k to informants in five yearspublished at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    Nearly £700,000 was paid to informants by police forces in Staffordshire and Cheshire over the last five years. 

    The figures, obtained by BBC Radio 5 live, found that, across the UK, at least £22m was paid out by police forces from 2011-16.

    In Staffordshire, the police paid out £380,367 and in Cheshire the total was £289,317. 

    A Home Office spokesman said it was "an operational matter for police".

    The National Police Chiefs' Council defended the practice saying the intelligence from the payments "provided helps to prevent and solve the most serious of crimes".

    You've been sharing your stories of NHS treatment after we reported the story that the NHS "failed" a woman whose fatal spinal cancer went undiagnosed for months, it has been claimed.

    Patricia Ann Whitehouse from Stoke-on-Trent died on Tuesday and the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust said it would "immediately investigate".

    On the Midlands Today Facebook page, Neil Roberts wrote, external: "This happened to my sister last year. The GPs never looked at her due to the new system for getting a GP. But once my sister got passed that and into hospital, you could not fault the hospital and the end of life care she got after they found the cancer."

    Kathleen Cleaver added, external that she has always needed medical care since a child and: "I can't complain with hospital treatment I've had from spinal injuries, Oswestry to Papworth Hospital, Cambridge - but where I feel the care has dropped is with GP services, I feel that that's all changed "

    And Rachel Moss posted, external: "Exact same thing happened to my mum, I can't praise the NHS enough but my mum was lost in the system."

    Fire crews have again worked through the night to continue damping down at the site of a major fire in Stoke-on-Trent, which broke out on Sunday morning.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service says it's still working on the cause of the fire at Hanbury Plastics Recycling (Stoke) Ltd, Redhills Road, Milton.

    It says two crews from Hanley and Biddulph stations remain at the scene. 

    It's working with the Environment Agency to recycle water to use at the incident, to try and prevent harm to the environment.  , external

    Former addicts in Stoke-on-Trent have told BBC Radio Stoke that working on a local farm is helping their recoveries.

    The owners of Whitegates Farm, Bucknall, contacted the charity Stoke Recovery, external to see if users would like a day a week in the fields. 

    The team muck out the animals, help with feeding and walk the pigs.

    The NHS "failed" a woman whose fatal spinal cancer went undiagnosed for months, it has been claimed.

    Patricia Ann Whitehouse visited her GP seven times in two months complaining of back pain, her family said.
