    Traffic is still being held after emergency services were called to the scene between J15 and J16 at about 14:15.

    Three vehicles were involved, said the ambulance service, with only minor injuries reported.

    The incident happened between junctions 15 and 16.

    Drivers are also being warned of smoke billowing across the road to the southbound carriageway, where one lane has been closed.

    Floral tributes are continuing to be left outside the Royal Stoke University Hospital this morning, following the death of 28-year-old midwife Samantha Eastwood.

    One message thanks her for her "service to the NHS" and that people are thinking of her family at "this heartbreaking time".

    Her body was found near Caverswall, Staffordshire, on Saturday, eight days after she was reported missing.

    Michael Stirling, 32, of Gratton Road, Bucknall, appeared in court this morning charged with her murder.

    Swimmer Adam Peaty says his coach "keeping me humble" led to him breaking his own 100m breaststroke world record in the European Championships.

    A man's appeared before magistrates this morning charged with the murder of 28-year-old midwife Samantha Eastwood.

    Michael Stirling, 32, from Gratton Road, Bucknall, Stoke-on-Trent, appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

    He was remanded into custody to appear next at Stafford Crown Court on 8 August.

    A woman has died and a man been seriously injured following a crash involving a horse-drawn carriage near Stone in Staffordshire.

    Emergency services were called to Uttoxeter Road at Hilderstone shortly after 13:00 yesterday.

    The carriage, which was being pulled by a single horse, was travelling towards Stone when it crashed.

    A 60-year-old woman, who was a passenger, was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital but died shortly after. The 55-year-old carriage driver suffered serious leg injuries.

    Police say Ruby demonstrated outstanding bravery and showed maturity beyond her years.

    Tributes and flowers have been left outside the Royal Stoke University Hospital, after the body of missing midwife, Samantha Eastwood was found on Saturday.

    The body of Ms Eastwood was discovered when police searched rural ground near Caverswall, Staffordshire, on Saturday, eight days after she was last seen.

    University Hospitals of North Midlands chief nurse Liz Rix described Ms Eastwood as "an absolutely dedicated and committed midwife" and a much-loved part of the team.

    One tribute simply says: "Our angel midwife. There are no words."

    A man charged with her murder is due to appear at North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court later.
