    A man in his 30s from Mildenhall, and a young girl, believed to be five years old and from Newmarket, are described as being in a "critical but stable" condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, following a collision involving a car and a lorry on Parkway in Bury St Edmunds yesterday.

    The pair had to be freed from the BMW car after the crash, which happened just before 13:00.

    Police say they've spoken to some witnesses, but are still keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicles prior to the crash, or the collision itself.

    McCarthy bought Barnsley winger Adam Hammill, 28, during his time at Wolves.

    "He was a really exciting talent when I signed him" said McCarthy. "I thought he'd be a great signing for us, but it didn't work out.

    "He's matured and he's settled again at Barnsley and he's a real threat. I think he's fulfilling his potential now."

    After winning twice at Wembley last season, once to secure promotion, Ipswich Town, external boss Mick McCarthy thinks Barnsley, external will give his side a severe test at Portman Road tomorrow.

    "They do worry me slightly, coming here, because they're a team that wants to be in the Championship after being down in League One for a couple of seasons," he said.

    "They're happy to be here, they're desperate to be here, and they'll be wanting to upset us so it's going to be a really tough game, no doubt."

    Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy was beaming when asked what he likes about recent signing Grant Ward ahead of tomorrow's match with Barnsley.

    "I like everything I liked about him previously, and I like him even more now that I've seen him in training," answered the boss. 

    However, McCarthy would not be drawn on what the versatile midfielder's best position was, and was also coy as to whether Ward would be in the starting line-up this weekend. 

    "He's not had as many games in pre season as the other lads so we'll have to wait and see. There's no doubting, though, that he's keen and eager to play," he said.

    Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has admitted that Adam Webster's return to full fitness has given him a selection headache ahead of kick-off against Barnsley tomorrow.

    The 21-year-old, who joined the Blues from Portsmouth earlier in the summer, is competing with Tommy Smith and Christophe Berra for a place in the centre of defence. 

    "A couple of weeks ago it was obvious who I'd be picking because Adam Webster had a really bad ankle injury and I never thought he'd make it," McCarthy said. 

    "The fact that he has made it and has been excellent in pre-season has thrown a real spanner in the works!"

    A 12-year-old boy arrested in connection with the robbery of a man in his 60s, in the Ranelagh Road area of Ipswich on Tuesday, has been bailed by police.

    They say a second boy, a 16-year-old who also comes from Ipswich, has also been arrested on suspicion of the same robbery.

    Both boys have been bailed to return to police on August 25, while further inquiries are made.

    Sgt Paul Thompson of British Transport Police said he had now seen the dashcam footage of a driver at the Oulton Broad level crossing.

    He said: "I watched it this morning and it's horrific what people do because they're in a rush; not only have they misused the crossing by going through the red lights, the vehicle has mounted the pavement - it's clearly on the footage of a woman with a pram...we take anything like that very seriously."

    He added: "With modern technology and dashcams that people now have it helps us to prove offences."

    He said both Norfolk and Suffolk had a high number of level crossings and a lot of offences committed there.

    Asked why, he said his experience was that people "got complacent" about using crossings because they lived nearby, and used them so regularly.

    Suffolk's chief constable has said police would always be keen to hear from people with dashcam footage, such as this video recorded at Oulton Broad level crossing yesterday.

    Gareth Wilson said: "It's one of our priorities is to keep the road network absolutely safe. Our cars are out and about, and we are watching people... if there is footage, yes of course we want to see it, yes of course we want to assess it. Where a prosecution is necessary we'll prosecute."

    He said advances in technology had made their job much easier recently: "Technology is wonderful - it's making things so much easier to prove or disprove... it's really important we use technology to its best, and dashcams are the latest innovation to do that."

    These are the comments from Suffolk's police and crime commissioner after he saw the video of a motorist ignoring the warning lights at Oulton Broad level crossing, and driving across the track as the barriers came down.

    Tim Passmore said: "It's an appalling thing to do. You're dicing with death, the lights were on, the barriers were starting to come down and this mad person decided to undercut other cars that were already waiting.

    "It is so dangerous, absolutely reckless and completely unacceptable. I'm horrified."

    The man who downloaded footage from a dashcam showing a driver "undertaking" waiting cars at the Oulton Broad level crossing yesterday, says the driver was "psychopathic, only thinking of themselves".

    Paul Whitlow, whose wife Shirley had the dashcam in her car, says he was a "bit annoyed and a bit worried for her safety" when he saw the film.

    "She's two back from the crossing in a car. If a train had come through and hit that other car, they could have all been injured," he said.

    Mr Whitlow said he's sent a version of the video to Suffolk Police and British Transport Police, adding: "We haven't phoned up to report it, but we've reported it by email."

    A driver has been recorded "undertaking" two cars waiting at the level crossing in Oulton Broad, and crossing the railway line as the red warning lights are flashing.

    The footage was captured by a dashcam in a car driven by Shirley Whitlow, whose husband Paul says the couple have them "not to be vigilantes", but in case of an accident.

    The East of England Ambulance Service says it's received more than a thousand hoax and inappropriate 999 calls over the past two years.

    They say that these calls divert time away from real emergencies.

    Operators at their control centre in Bedford have had calls about a cat with a broken leg, a man snoring in the back of a taxi and one about a dead squirrel.
