    Plans to reduce the speed limit on certain stretches of the A134 to the south of Sudbury following a series of crashes have been revealed to BBC Suffolk.

    Yesterday the second fatal crash on the road in a year, took place between the Shawlands Retail Park roundabout, and the Wyevale Garden Centre (pictured).

    The road has also been closed four times in the last 12 months as a result of other crashes.

    The cause of yesterday's collision, which involved a motorcyclist who died at the scene, and a lorry, is still not known, and an investigation is under way.

    Plans are in the early stages, but it would mean the limit would change from 60mph to 40mph in certain places.

    Both McCarthy and Best hope the striker can settle at Ipswich, having had spells with five different clubs since leaving Newcastle in 2012. 

    "Leon has got the bit between his teeth because people have written him off," McCarthy said. "I like players that have something to prove.

    "I don't remember people dancing in the streets when we signed Daryl, but he was great. Let's hope we get something similar out of Leon."

    The Broomhill Pool Trust, external says the lido was built in 1938, at a cost of £17,000.

    It had a staff of 29, a grandstand for 700 spectators, and changing facilities for 70 women and 108 men.

    The cost of a swim was 2.5p for adults, and 1.25 pence for children.

    The 1970s and 1980s saw as many as 2,000 swimmers a day packing into Broomhill during the heatwaves and as many as 50-60,000 swimmers during the 90-100-day opening period.

    Proposals for a major £5.5m revamp of Broomhill Pool in Ipswich, which opened in 1938, are being presented to the public during this weekend's Heritage Open Days, external.

    Campaigners have been fighting for the site to be reopened since 2003, the year after it closed, when the council said it had become too expensive to run.

    A cafe and fitness centre, which developers say would help make the site "a commercially viable leisure destination", could be built alongside a refurbished open-air swimming pool.

    An online survey has been launched, external, asking for people's thoughts on the development.

    A former teacher who was found guilty in July of sexually abusing pupils at a boarding school, is due to be sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court today.

    Gerard Singer, 69, was convicted of systematically grooming and abusing pupils at St George's School, based in Wicklewood, Norfolk, and then Great Finborough, Suffolk, between 1978 and 1981.

    The judge at his trial said there was overwhelming evidence Singer had an entrenched pattern of sexual misconduct towards young boys, which had been in existence for more for 40 years.

    Mick McCarthy has confirmed that there will be no changes to his back line ahead of tonight's Championship clash at Reading.

    Adam Webster (pictured) will therefore have to settle for a place on the bench again, after losing his place in the team to Tommy Smith, less than a week after a decent performance against Norwich. 

    "I explained my reasons for that decision to Adam and I was fully justified given how the Preston game panned out with us winning," McCarthy said. 

    "Players might not like it but they've got to accept it and when we win they have to accept it even more!"

    After signing for Ipswich Town late last month, striker Leon Best is relishing a potential debut for the Blues at Reading tomorrow.

    Best arrived at Portman Road shortly after Daryl Murphy left the club, and plenty would say he has big shoes to fill if he is to follow in the Irishman's footsteps. 

    "When Andy Carroll left Newcastle for Liverpool I got told I had big shoes to fill and I went on and scored a few," Best told us. 

    "Having something to live up to and some expectation is what you want as a striker. It's all good energy."

    There may well be changes elsewhere though, with Everton loanee Conor Grant (pictured) fit again, and ready to fight for a place in the Blues midfield. 

    "Conor has trained this week and it's been good to have him back," McCarthy said. 

    "He's played in the last couple of games for the under-23s and he looks a constant threat. Technically he's very good."

    A knee problem has prevented the 24-year-old from playing any football at all so far this season, and it could be worse than initially feared. 

    "Luke has been to see a specialist and has to wait for another two weeks to see if the injury settles. If it doesn't, he will require surgery," McCarthy confirmed. 

    "He prides himself on being fit and has been doing all he can, but understandably he's a bit down. The last thing you want is to be opened up."

    Returning now to the barn blaze at Bedingfield which began at about 11:00 this morning, Suffolk Fire Service said that when the first crews arrived, the owners told them that a number of pigs were in a building adjacent to the barn, and that they needed some support in getting them out.

    Station commander Phil Geeson said: "A large number of pigs were led to safety by the inital crews and the early actions of the owners.

    "Unfortunately there has been some casualties among the livestock."

    He added: "We expect crews to be here for the foreseeable future."

    Striker Leon Best gave his first press conference as an Ipswich Town player this afternoon, and the 29-year-old certainly talks a good game.

    He also hopes to play a good few games under Blues boss Mick McCarthy, who he has described as being "perfect for him" at this stage in his career.

    "Honesty is a massive thing for me and he is an honest man who looks me in the eye and tells me exactly what he wants," said Best.

    "I need a manager who knows what he wants and I've not always had that through my career."
