    Campaigners against coastal erosion at Hemsby are calling for more sea defences.

    They'll meet with Therese Coffey, MP for Suffolk Coastal and junior minister at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, external, who will be in neighbouring Scratby to officially mark the completion of the coast protection scheme at the beach. 

    In December 2013, a number of homes in Hemsby fell into the sea during the tidal surge. Local resident Lorna Bevan-Thompson doesn't think the fact their beach is privately-owned should affect their case for government help.

    Lauri Love's US-based lawyer says the US government is "embarrassed" that they failed to secure their computer systems.

    Mr Love, who's from Stradishall, will find out at Westminster Magistrates' Court today if he's to be extradited to America for alleged hacking offences.  

    Tor Ekeland, his lawyer, says the US authorities "had very, very bad security and these hacks utilised exploits that were publicly-known for months".

    "I think there's a certain amount of embarrassment by the US government that they failed to secure their systems and they're taking that embarrassment out on Laurie," he said.

    Ipswich Witches, external team manager Ritchie Hawkins has been trying to explain his team's impressive turnaround in fortune.

    After winning just two of their first nine Premier League meetings, the Suffolk side's now won seven in a row at home, to storm into the end-of-season play-offs.

    "Maybe at the start of the year we weren't getting the rub of the green with certain things. Sometimes not everything is going to be rosy all year," said Hawkins.

    "You've just got to keep working hard and that's what we've done. Obviously the team changes, we made them when we could, have worked out really well."

    Ipswich Witches, external have reached the Premier League play-offs after recording their seventh successive home win.

    The Suffolk side beat Newcastle Diamonds, external 52-41 at Foxhall last night with Morten Risager (pictured) and Danny King both paid for 12 points.

    "Our first goal's achieved - to make the play-offs," said manager Ritchie Hawkins. 

    "We ended up fifth which is really important, so hopefully we'll get a big crowd here for the quarter-finals next week."

    A very wet start for some, with thundery and torrential downpours, bringing a risk of disruption. These will gradually ease away during the evening, although some eastern areas will remain wet throughout.

    Top temperature: 20C (68F).

    Western parts may have a dry start to the night, but further rain will soon move to all parts, lasting through the night. Lows of 12C (54F).

    As well as our usual updates of what's happening across the county, we're going to be keeping a particularly close eye on the weather.

    The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of rain, external, meaning there's a risk of disruption due to localised flooding and also from lightning strikes.

    The Met Office has issued a warning for heavy rain for much of the region for Friday.

    It'll be a mostly cloudy day with thunderstorms and rain - the heavy downpours could lead to some very localised flooding.

    Moderate north westerly winds, with a maximum temperature of 20(C)  (68F).

  13. Woman has 'unknown substance' thrown in her face as she walks her dogpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

    A woman in Ipswich has had what police say is an "unknown substance" thrown in her face, as she was walking her dog on Tuesday evening.

    The incident happened at about 19:15 at the junction of Melville Road and Wellesley Road.

    The victim, in her thirties, said the man was leaning against a road sign, and as she passed him, he threw a clear liquid from a bottle in her face, which caused reddening to her skin and slight swelling.

    Hospital tests did not find evidence of any corrosive material in the liquid, but further forensic tests will take place to try and identify what was in the bottle.

    Suffolk Police, external are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

    In 1916, the Elveden Estate near Mildenhall was used for top-secret tank training.

    It took 3,000 men six weeks to turn this corner of Suffolk into the Somme. Hundreds of acres of farmland were transformed and more than a million sandbags were brought in.

  15. Berra keen to 'repay' Ipswich before any move homepublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 15 September 2016

    Ipswich Town defender Christophe Berra says he has had a great time in Suffolk, but would consider a move back to his native Scotland at some point.

    The Edinburgh born 31-year-old left Hearts for Wolves in 2009, before teaming up with Mick McCarthy for a second time at Ipswich in 2013. 

    "My daughter is four and at one point I would want to go home as all my friends and family are there," he told us at today's press conference. 

    "At the moment though, I am enjoying my football. Ipswich has been good to me and hopefully I can repay the club."

    Ipswich Town defender Christophe Berra says the whole team appreciates the current form of goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski (pictured).

    The 29-year-old from Poland has kept three clean sheets in his last five games and has been the Blues' standout performer since returning to the starting line-up in January. 

    "He's been consistent and is a top keeper," Berra told a press conference this afternoon. 

    "He is a good shot stopper and has made vital saves at vital times."

    The arrival of Adam Webster at Ipswich Town this summer could have been seen as a threat to fellow defender Christophe Berra (pictured), not that you would know it of course.

    Berra was as calm and collected as ever at a pre-match press conference this afternoon and was full of praise for his current partner at centre half. 

    "The press are sure building him up and hopefully that doesn't put too much pressure on him," Berra joked. 

    "He did well the other night at Derby and has done well all season. He's only 21 and is hopefully only going to get better."

    One of the competitors in this year's  Disabled British Golf Open, external, which is taking place at Ufford Park, external near Woodbridge, says playing in the Paralympcs is "his goal".

    Last year's winner, James Hourigan, from Dublin, says: "Ask anybody, both guys competing this week and other guys that we've all played with from all around the world, and there's nothing like playing for your country. 

    "That's my goal, and I'm wearing my green today, and I want to play for my country in the Paralympics, absolutely."
