    After spending the summer in the streets and parks of Ipswich, 40 pig statues will (hopefully) be given a new home tonight.

    The Pigs Gone Wild, external art trail proved to be a massive hit with the public, and now the porkers will be sold to the highest bidder - with the money going to St Elizabeth Hospice.

    I'll be at Trinity Park for the auction and will bring you all the gossip and live auction results... right on this very page.

  2. Further arrest following armed robbery in Becclespublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    A fourth man has been arrested, external following an armed robbery at a jewellers in Beccles on Friday.

    The man, who's 21, was detained earlier today in Great Yarmouth and has been taken into custody where he will be interviewed, say police.

    Three others arrested on Tuesday in connection with the incident - two 19-year-old men from Gorleston and a 26-year-old from the Great Yarmouth area - have already been bailed to return to police on 9 November.

    Police have also arrested a fifth person, a 21-year-old woman, on suspicion of assisting an offender. 

    She's also been bailed to return to police in November.

  3. Family of Olive McFarland are 'pleased' with Network Rail fine, says nephewpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Olive McFarland's family are "pleased" with the £4m fine imposed on Network Rail at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday "inasmuch as it does emphasise the guilt and negligence placed on Network Rail and the staff" says her nephew.

    John Black, her nephew, added: "But we're not really happy with the fact that the British Transport Police investigation [has left] an awful lot of unanswered questions.

    "We were pressing for the manslaughter charge because we believe the only way to prevent future accidents is to make the staff accountable for the decisions."

  5. Travel: Latest on A134 collisionpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    Police say the A134 remains closed between the Barnham traffic lights, and the Nuns' Bridges in Thetford, following a collision just before 12:00 between a motorcycle and a car.

    The ambulance service say they sent two crews, an ambulance officer, and the air ambulance was called.

    We have no information at this stage about any injuries sustained in the crash.

    Police hoped the road would re-open in time for the rush hour.

    An Ipswich man has been jailed for life, and told he will have to serve a minimum of 10 years before being considered for parole, for a series of rapes and sexual assaults on young girls.

    Leslie Constable, 47, of Hatfield Road, pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court in July, of 13 charges - 10 relating to the rape, attempted rape, and indecent assault of girls aged under 16, and three of making indecent images of children, after more than 5,000 child abuse images were found in his possession.

    Judge Rupert Overbury told Constable: "I would describe you as a committed and dangerous paedophile…what you did was a gross breach of trust, at the highest levels of depravity and the words shocking and horrifying are quite inadequate.”

    The Mildenhall, external rider has been drafted in as a guest at reserve, in place of the injured Danyon Hume.

    "We can't realistically expect too much from him, that would be unfair" said Louis. "Edinburgh are going to be tough opposition."

    "They generally come to Ipswich and do very well. They're a strong side who're solid right through and it's going to be tough for Connor to find the points."

    If Ipswich Town midfielder Jonathan Douglas (pictured) is not having a good game, he usually hears about it from the terraces more than some of the other players perhaps would.

    For the most part last season, the 34-year-old struggled to recapture the form of his final campaign with Brentford, but teammate Cole Skuse is pleased that Douglas appears to have turned a corner. 

    "He's not had the career he's had for no reason. He has played at some top clubs and played a lot of games," Skuse acknowledged. 

    "He's a very honest boy and we see these top performances every day in training. 

    "I'm glad he's getting his praise at the moment."

    Luke Hyam (pictured) has endured a nightmare few seasons at Ipswich Town on the injury front, but the latest news surrounding the midfielder is a little more positive.

    Manager Mick McCarthy says the 24-year-old does not require a further knee operation, as had been feared just a couple of weeks ago. 

    "He did some work before he went to see the specialist and felt considerably better," McCarthy said. 

    "He's improved significantly and doesn't need the op, which is good news."

    Ipswich Town midfielder Cole Skuse is a great believer in the notion that money will not buy you everything, especially when it comes to football.

    The 30-year-old has been speaking ahead of Saturday's match at Leeds, and was quick to point out that while Town's Championship rivals have spent big, the Blues have a priceless mentality. 

    "It's not all about the money, it's about the inner sanctum, as in the day-to-day stuff and how close you are as a team," Skuse said. 

    "Teams can go out and buy, but you have to be close knit. That goes a long way and with the boys we've got here, it will stand us in good stead."

    Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has a few players on the treatment table ahead of Saturday's Championship clash with Leeds at Elland Road.

    Midfielder Teddy Bishop suffered a broken nose during the goalless draw with Aston Villa, and striker Luke Varney was brought off during the U23s' 4-0 win over Leeds on Monday. 

    Grant Ward has also been struggling on the fitness front, but manager Mick McCarthy hopes to have him available. 

    "He got a couple of knocks in the back, so he hasn't trained with us this week. He will train tomorrow though and he'll be fine," McCarthy said.

    Yesterday we told you about the rise in the use of physical restraint against mental health patients at the Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT).

    The information was gathered by the Lib Dem North Norfolk MP and former health minister Norman Lamb's office.

    In response Dr Jane Sayer, NSFT’s director of Nursing, Quality and Patient Safety said: "There are times when we do need to use restraint to keep our patients and others safe, but we avoid using any form of restraint wherever we can. 

    "It is important to understand that restraint includes any physical contact even if it is, for example, gently escorting a patient from one room to another by touching their arm.

    Dr Sayer explained that the Trust had set itself a four-year target (2014-18) to reduce the use of restraint by 25%. 

    The Liberal Democrat figures also showed more positive figures for the Trust including an 18% decrease in face-down (prone) restraints over the past year, from 847 to 695.

    The nephew of Olive McFarland, who died after safety failures at a Suffolk level crossing five years ago, says he has questions which will never be answered.

    Speaking exclusively to BBC Suffolk, John Black said: "Sadly, by Network Rail pleading guilty, those answers will never really be provided. 

    "We’re waiting to see what happens. We're looking to reflect on the last couple of days in court and make a decision on where we go from here, whether we want an inquest or not."

    Network Rail were fined £4m at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday, after admitting health and safety breaches at the Gipsy Lane level crossing in Needham Market.

    Police say there's very slow traffic in both directions, and the air ambulance may be called.

    "It's something that I've not done much in my career, playing up-front on my own" said Pitman. "It's something that I'm really enjoying though.

    "I really enjoy taking the responsibility of helping the team and building a platform to play off." 

    The 28-year-old is set to keep his place in the side when Town travel to Leeds United on Saturday.
