    It looks like lifeguard Nick Ayers, who is attempting to cross the Channel on a paddleboard using only his hands, has made it to France.

    Website VesselFinder, external, which charts shipping movements, shows that the 25-year-old from Pakefield arrived in Boulogne shortly before 12:00.

    I'm at Ipswich Crown Court listening to the case of Network Rail, which admitted health and safety breaches after the death of 82-year-old Olive McFarland on a rail crossing.

    Ms McFarland died in 2011 after being hit at the Gypsy Lane crossing at Needham Market. 

    Prashant Popat, for the defence, asked Judge Martyn Levett to consider that Network Rail is a public body and any fine could impact on its ability to provide services.

    Judge Levett has adjourned the case to consider the sentence and the court will reconvene at 13:15.

    Morten Risager is one of a few Ipswich Witches, external riders who have discovered their best form ahead of the end of season play-offs.

    The 28-year-old from Denmark was paid for 14 points at Newcastle on Sunday night, and says he feels more comfortable than ever at the Suffolk club.

    "As soon as Chris Louis said he wanted me back this year I was ready," Risager said. "It took us about three minutes to do the deal.

    "To me this is home when I'm not in Denmark. Not just the club, but the town. I like it here and I know a lot of people now."

    At the midway point of the speedway season, very few people would have put money on the Ipswich Witches, external making the Premier League play-offs.

    However, following an impressive run of form that has included eight consecutive home wins, the Suffolk side are just over 24 hours away from the first leg of a semi-final meeting with Edinburgh.

    "We're looking good," said Witches rider Morten Risager. "We have never gone into the play-offs in good form before, but this year we are."

    "This is the strongest line-up the Witches have ever had in the Premier League, but let's not jinx it!"

    A motorcyclist has been injured in a crash near Bury St Edmunds this morning. 

    Police and paramedics were called to a crash between a motorbike and a van in Honington. The motorcyclist has been taken to West Suffolk Hospital.

    Green Lane, near the A134 is currently closed, and is expected not to re-open until this evening.

    Pupils in Woodbridge have been brightening up a hoarding which is covering ongoing building work near their school.

    An area of woodland on land sold by Suffolk Coastal District Council last year has been cleared, to make way for new housing.

    Artist Helen Taylor designed a mural for the hoarding outside Woodbridge Primary School, and children from the school have been helping to paint it.

    Ms Taylor, whose children attend the school, said the design reflected "the creativity and joy that our children experience daily in their school life, as well as the more everyday activities, such as lunchtime and music lessons".

    Unions are in a meeting with bosses from Bernard Matthews, discussing how the buy-out deal will pan out. 

    Crucial to the talks is staff pensions. The sale didn't include the pension scheme, which is expected to fall into the Pension Protection Fund. , external

    Adrian Nicholls, an independent financial advisor from Norwich, said: "When you talk about pensions going into the Pension Protection Fund that is generally because the company that has set the scheme up over the years cannot afford to meet its debt. 

    "So if you've got a company that's got a £10m black hole then it can't provide the benefits for the members."

    Staff and unions are to meet with Bernard Matthews bosses this morning to hear more about the buy-out deal

    The poultry producer, which has been loss-making for several years, was bought by private equity firm Rutland Partners in 2013, but was sold last night following "disappointing results" last year. 

    Staff will be keen to hear how the buy-out deal will affect their pension fund. 

    The sale to the Boparan Private Office does not include the Bernard Matthews pension scheme, which is likely to fall into the Pension Protection Fund, external.

    The Unite union's regional officer Steve Harley said: "Searching questions will be asked on future employment, pay, and terms and conditions.

    "We will also be asking about the status of the pension scheme under the new owners, although it is expected that our members won't be affected in this respect by the takeover."

    Unite represents about 800 of the 2,000-strong workforce at the producing sites at Great Witchingham in Norfolk and Holton in Suffolk, as well as the animal food mill at Bawsey, near King's Lynn.

    A 25-year-old lifeguard from Pakefield has set off on a paddleboard trip across the Channel.

    Nick Ayers left Dungeness at about 06:00 this morning and is en route to Boulogne.

    Nick Ayers is raising money for the RNLI and is attempting to cross by lying or kneeling on the paddleboard, and propelling himself using only his hands.

    Network Rail is being sentenced today over the death of an actress at a Suffolk level crossing.

    Olive McFarland died when she was hit by a train at the Gipsy Lane level crossing in Needham Market, in 2011. 

    Last week at Ipswich Crown Court, Network Rail admitted breaches to health and safety regulations. Sentencing was adjourned until today.

    The new owner of the poultry producer Bernard Matthews says all 2,000 staff jobs across plants in Norfolk and Suffolk "have been secured".

    It's been bought by the Boparan Private Office, led by Ranjit Singh Boparan, a British businessman known as the "Chicken King".

    Mr Boparan also owns the 2 Sisters food group which produces Goodfellas Pizza and Fox's Biscuits.

    According to the 2 Sisters, external website, the firm produces about a third of all poultry products eaten in the UK and owns more than 700 farms.

    Police are searching for an Audi driver after a woman in her 20s was hit near the University of Suffolk on Ipswich's Waterfront yesterday evening. 

    Officers were called to Fore Hamlet just after 19:00. The pedestrian was not thought to have suffered serious injuries.

    Turkey producer Bernard Matthews has been sold to the Boparan Private Office.

    The sale was confirmed last night by the company, which said: "We intend to make Bernard Matthews great again."

    The buyer said the acquisition would secure the jobs of the 2,000 workers employed by the company in Norfolk and Suffolk. 

    A spokesman said: "We intend to respect and build on the 66-year heritage of a much-loved British brand and crucially help to deliver Christmas 2016, which would have been at risk without our intervention."

    Meanwhile, the union Unite, which represents 800 of the company's workforce, "cautiously" welcomed the news.
