    Town missed the midfielder's ball-winning qualities in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Championship leaders Newcastle United.

    "It's not as bad as when he did it at QPR that time, when he missed about four to six weeks when he partially ruptured it. So we're hoping he'll be alright for Saturday," McCarthy told BBC Suffolk Sport.

    A 63-year-old man was thrown 12 metres (40ft) in a go-kart crash at a family fun day, an inquest has heard.

    Allan Fairweather, from Oulton Broad, died at Ellough Raceway near Beccles on 25 September.

    Dr Daniel Sharpstone, assistant Suffolk coroner, said there were attempts to revive Mr Fairweather lasting half an hour, but he died at the scene as a result of traumatic chest injuries.

    The inquest, in Bury St Edmunds, has been opened and adjourned until a later date to allow inquiries to continue.

    One of the key MPs involved in organising a letter asking President Barack Obama to block the extradition of a Suffolk man to the USA, fears the accused man, Lauri Love, "has a high risk of taking his life".

    In 2012 David Burrowes, the Conservative MP for Enfield Southgate, succeeded in blocking the extradition of another autistic man, Gary McKinnon, who was also accused of hacking offences in the US. 

    He said the MPs were asking Mr Obama to show a "final act of compassion" and calling on him to halt the extradition of Mr Love due to his mental health problems.  

    A court ruled in September that Mr Love should be extradited to the US to face trial. 

    Mr Burrowes told the BBC when the government introduced the forum bar, which allows courts to bar prosecutions abroad if it is in the interest of justice, it should have prevented the extradition of people like Mr Love.

    We've been following the news that a cross-party group of 105 MPs have signed a letter calling on US President Barack Obama to block the extradition of Suffolk man Lauri Love, who is accused of hacking into US government computers.

    Mr Love's father, Rev Alexander Love, said he welcomed the news.

    Rev Love told the BBC: "The judge accepted he [Lauri] had mental health issues, but still said there was a public interest to honour the extradition to the US.

    "If he has done something wrong surely he should be tried here in this country." 

    Mr Love was first arrested at home in Stradishall in 2013 and had computer equipment seized by British police, but the UK investigation into him was dropped.

    A US airman sent a text message shortly before he lost control of his car and was killed in a crash near his RAF Mildenhall base, an inquest in Bury St Edmunds has heard.

    Staff Sgt Hunter Davis, 27, was involved in a collision with two oncoming vehicles on the B1112 at Eriswell on the morning of 7 June.

    Assistant coroner Dr Daniel Sharpstone recorded a conclusion that Sgt Davis died as a result of a road traffic collision.

  11. Sudbury bank reopens, more than a year after major firepublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 24 October 2016

    A Sudbury bank, which has been operating from a number of temporary sites since a major fire devastated the town centre in September 2015, has finally reopened to the public in its original premises.

    HSBC branch manager Lesley Wilson said there's been "really good community spirit" in the intervening period, which included setting up a desk in the Barclays Bank in town as a temporary measure.

    She paid tribute to customers who've remained loyal, explaining that on Monday, 7 September, the day after the fire broke out, staff helped customers "actually on the doorstep" so they would know where to go to pay in money.

  12. Georgey Spanswick to become full-time host of local radio evening showpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 24 October 2016

    Georgey Spanswick, who currently presents BBC Local Radio's Friday 19:00-22:00 show, will front it five days a week when regular host Mark Forrest stands down in February.

    Georgey, who currently also hosts the breakfast show on BBC Radio York, said: “I’ve loved presenting the Friday evening show for the last year and a bit. 

    "So to be able to present the show five nights a week is fantastic."

    Mark Forrest, who's moving on after presenting the programme from Monday to Thursday since it replaced regional shows in 2013, said: "I'm proud of the show we have produced for the last four years and I'm pleased to be moving on when the audience figures indicate the show is in great shape."

    The evening show is broadcast on all 39 BBC Local Radio stations in England.

    Members of staff at a Bury St Edmunds shop took refuge in a back room during an aggravated burglary yesterday evening.

    Officers were alerted at about 20:45 to reports that two men had gone into the Co-Op on Out Risbygate.

    One jumped over the counter, and staff managed to get to safety in a back room, while the other man, who appeared to be armed with a knife, stood near the door.

    Neither of the staff, a man and a woman, were threatened or hurt in the incident.

    More than 100 MPs have written an open letter to Barack Obama, calling for the extradition of Lauri Love, from Stradishall, to be withdrawn.

    Mr Love (pictured) is facing a possible 99-year prison sentence, because of his alleged involvement in hacking computer systems, including the US Federal Reserve and NASA.

    The 105 cross-party backbenchers, including West Suffolk Conservative MP Matt Hancock, stress their "deep concern" for the safety of the 31-year-old, who has Asperger syndrome, external and suffers with severe depression.

    Last month, a judge accepted Lauri's extradition would mean he'd be a real suicide risk, but the move couldn't be blocked.

    The letter asks the US President for an act of compassion in his final days in office.

    If you've ever dreamed of playing Ed Sheeran's drum kit, here's your chance.

    A kit used by Ed Sheeran as a teenager is being auctioned in aid of the East Anglia's Children's Hospices, external (EACH). 

    The international superstar signed it during a visit to the charity's Treehouse hospice in Ipswich, with the inscription "This is my old drum kit, love Ed Sheeran", and has agreed to pen a further personal message to the highest bidder at the end of the auction.

    The bright orange drum kit, with green snare, is included as a lot in the Ultimate Charity Auction, external which started on Saturday and runs until Sunday, 6 November. 

    The donation is in support of the EACH Nook Appeal, external, which is raising funds to build a new hospice on the outskirts of Norwich.

    The Framlingham singer-songwriter is an ambassador of the charity, and will be performing live at an EACH gala dinner, external at the Natural History Museum in November.

    A councillor who represents both Suffolk County and St Edmundsbury Borough councils says she feels there's a "lack of knowledge, and a lack of understanding" about what the role of a councillor actually is.

    Sarah Stamp said: "I think we've all collectively got a responsibility to educate people and to say 'this is the role', lay down what the role is. 

    "We need to do more to attract people from all sorts of different backgrounds. 

    "I believe all council chambers would be better with a much more diverse group of councillors in them."

    The chairman of the Ipswich and Suffolk Council for Racial Equality, external has described the culture of political parties as "very adversarial", which may explain the disproportionately small number of councillors in the county from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds.

    Chris Cumberbatch was responding to research by BBC Suffolk, which has revealed there are only an estimated seven out of 368 councillors in the county who are from a BME background.

    He said a lot of people from those groups think: "God, I'm walking into the lion's den here.

    "I've walked away from a bit of racism at school, a bit of bullying and so on, I'm going to go into that, there's going to be people sat in a room not looking like me, not really liking me, maybe want me as a token, but not really want me there."
