    A largely dry night with clear spells, although thicker cloud will eventually feed down from the north-west. Temperatures could fall as low as -1C (30F) , perhaps even a few degrees lower in some spots, so there will be a frost under clearer skies.

    Tomorrow will be a largely dry day, although the thickest cloud in the north and west could produce a bit of drizzle.

    The best of any brightness and sunshine will be in the south-east of the region. Elsewhere there will generally be more cloud than today. It’ll remain cold with highs between 3-5C (37-41F).

    The West Suffolk Hospital, where the outbreak of the winter vomiting bug has been described as one of the worst in the country, says this year's strain has been "particularly severe", and has affected people in the local community, both in nursing and residential homes.

    Chief nurse Rowan Proctor said: "Staff have quoted that they think it was dire and I appreciate why they may have felt that way.

    "Whilst we were under significant pressures we actually managed to safely keep all the affected wards closed so we didn't spread it any further. We had two wards shut."

    A dog walker says she warned of a cliff collapse at Thorpeness just days before a man was killed there.

    Maggie Scorer says recent high tides had made the cliff-face unsafe, and she'd rung the council to warn them: "My dog ran to the end and there was just suddenly a clear drop which hasn't been there before.

    "I was just amazed and horrified at the severity of what was happening and so I thought it was time that somebody actually reported it before there was a tragedy."

    Suffolk Coastal Council say: "Concerns they received on the coastal path were passed to the landowner."

    The man who died there on Saturday, after tonnes of sand fell on him, has not yet been named.

    Lowestoft boxer Craig Poxton (pictured left) has earned a shot at the Southern Area Super-Featherweight championship.

    Poxton is on the comeback trail after missing out on an English title when he lost to Andy Townend last March. 

    The man, who trains at the Kickstop Gym in Norwich, will face unbeaten Boy Jones Junior at the York Hall, Bethnal Green on Friday, 24 February.

  10. Ipswich Town taking over 1,000 fans to FA Cup tiepublished at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    In 1961 the crowd at Sincil Bank for Ipswich's last match, in the league, at Lincoln was just under 8,000.

    Tonight's FA Cup replay at 20:00 will exceed that.

    Lincoln City have told us that their current capacity is 10,000, but that's been reduced by about 400 so they can fit more television cameras in for the live screening on BBC One tonight.

    Ipswich Town had an allocation of 1,700 of which 1,025 have been taken up.

    The Imps said both clubs will receive a payment of £72,000 for the television coverage.

    An outbreak of the winter vomiting bug at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds at the start of this year was one of the worst in the country, according to figures from NHS England, external.

    They show the trust lost 386 "bed days" to norovirus closures in the week ending 8 January - more than any other in the country except for the Wirral Hospital.

    Sue Huggins, operational manager for the Royal College of Nursing, external, said: "We have no information whether those figures are accurate, they're not provided by us, but we know from what the staff are telling us that the situation is dire."

  13. Closure of bridge will be an 'inconvenience'published at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    The closure of Westley railway bridge will be "an inconvenience", acknowledges the county councillor responsible for transport.

    Councillor James Finch explained: "We've looked at all possible ways of how not to close the road... but what we're trying to do is do as much as [we can] with a single lane then when it comes to it, close it and get on with it.

    "It's a big job, we're putting on a new surface. 

    "I've been asked to look at it umpteen times. There's a lot of concrete to go in, a lot of metalwork to go in - we're talking about a real re-building of that bridge."

  14. Westley Bridge to close for 'up to eight weeks'published at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    What's been described as one of the "busiest routes in and out of Bury St Edmunds", is to be closed between 13 February and 7 April.

    The closure is necessary, external to enable essential repairs to Westley Rail Bridge, to allow it to carry two lanes of traffic again, says Suffolk County Council.

    Traffic has been reduced to a single lane on the bridge since December 2013, causing lengthy delays for motorists at peak times.

    Newmarket Road in Bury St Edmunds will be closed from junction 42 on the A14 to Oliver Road, for the duration of the works, with a diversion in place.

    There will be no access for pedestrians, cyclists or emergency services.

  15. KT Tunstall to headline music and food festivalpublished at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    The organisers of Jimmy's Farm, external Music and Food Festival, which takes place on 21 and 22 July, say established festival favourite KT Tunstall will be headlining on the second night.

    Nicola Adams, event organiser, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled, I saw her down at Southend, she was with a three-piece band plus herself, and it was an absolutely amazing night.

    "Her new album is fantastic... I'm so chuffed."

    KT performed at the first music at food festival at the farm in 2009, when it was billed as Harvest at Jimmy's.

  16. Train firm wins reliability accolade but travellers want morepublished at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    One of the region main train operators has won an award for engineering efficiency, after it improved reliability on one route by nearly 100% and on another by 54%. 

    Greater Anglia has scooped a Golden Spanner Award, organised by Modern Railways, external magazine, for reliability improvements on the Norwich to London line through Suffolk and Essex.

    But commuters and regular travellers said the firm should have been achieving high reliability rates right from when it took over the franchise. 

    The yardstick of reliability compares a technical fault that causes a delay of three minutes or more with the number of miles rolling stock travels. On the Norwich-London line 48,122 miles were travelled between incidents compared to the previous figure of 24,251 miles. 

    Commuter routes in Essex, saw an improvement of 54%, going from 17,553 miles per technical incident to 27,030. 

    Peter Slattery, chairman of the Southend Rail Travellers' Association, said this level of performance should have been there from the start. 

    While welcoming improvements, he said: "Greater Anglia still has a long way to go. Passengers should expect a much better service alongside the fares that go up annually." 

    Greater Anglia said the improvements in rolling stock reliability was the result of better maintenance and monitoring performance.

  17. 'Partial opening' for flood-hit primary schoolpublished at 16:43 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    Britannia Primary School in Ipswich, which was flooded on Sunday night, is opening to some year groups on Wednesday, according to the school's website, external.

    The notice says that Nursery, Reception, Years 1,2,4 and 6 will be open, but stressed that children from Years 3 and 5 will not be able to return, asking parents to make "alternative arrangements" for their care as they don't have the "physical space" to accommodate them.

  18. Corrie Mckeague: Two potential witnesses still to be identifiedpublished at 16:28 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    Police are confirming there are now just two people, whose images were captured on CCTV in Bury St Edmunds the night Corrie Mckeague disappeared, who have not been identified.

    Police are renewing appeals to trace the cyclist and man whose photographs appear here, who they say could be "potential witnesses" to help them solve the mystery of the disappearance of the RAF Honington gunner.

    Det Supt Katie Elliott said: "It remains important that we identify everyone who was in the area of the ‘horseshoe’ in the early hours of Saturday, 24 September, as someone could, unknowingly, hold a clue that can help us find Corrie."

    There's a big night in prospect for the county's Ryman League clubs.

    Needham Market, external could top the Ryman Premier if they beat Bognor Regis Town.

    The Marketmen are currently second, but a win on the road at the leaders' ground would be enough to take them to the summit.

    Leiston have scored, external 15 goals in their last three matches and will be hoping to continue that prolific record against Canvey Island.

    Elsewhere Lowestoft Town, external visit Harlow Town and AFC Sudbury, external host Havant and Waterlooville.

  20. Thieves drive vehicle at owner after stealing itpublished at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    Two men who stole a Land Rover from a village near Saxmundham drove it at the owner before making their getaway.

    People living in the property in Silverlace Green in Benhall were woken at about 01:30 by their dogs barking in the garden.  

    They saw people in their car and managed to get in front of the vehicle before it was driven at them.

    Police tracked down the green Land Rover Defender in Henley, but it rammed a patrol car and drove across fields to get away.

    Despite a search assisted by a police helicopter, the vehicle, registration number LA55 BYH, has not been found.
