Concerns have been raised at Christchurch Park in Ipswich, after a locally-famous tawny owl, nicknamed Mabel, has not been seen for about six weeks.

But as reported in the  Ipswich Star, external , there are fears she's gone missing - as she hasn't been seen "for six weeks".

There could be good news, however, as our reporter Luke Deal went to the park this morning and spoke to Peter, who keeps a close eye on Mabel.

"I keep track of her every day, and I know she's up there," he said.

"There are jays nearby, and they wouldn't be chattering and hassling an empty hole in a tree, unless there's something in there for it to eat.

"They're obviously trying to get to the eggs or the chicks if they've hatched, but she's keeping them off, so I'm fairly sure that she's there."
