    Leiston, external manager Glenn Driver's vowed to keep 40-goal striker Matt Blake at Victory Road for as long as possible.

    The former Norwich United player reached the landmark in last night's 2-1 win over Folkestone Invicta.

    "There's clubs out there showing an interest in Blakey all of the time, whether we get phone calls or not, you hear little whispers and see things on social media," said Driver. 

    "But he's a Leiston player and he's got a year left on his contract, and if we can keep him here then we've got a good striker for the rest of this year and next, so that's our plan and what we aim to do."

    Leiston, external striker Matt Blake scored his 40th goal of an incredible season as his side beat Folkestone Invicta 2-1 last night.

    The victory moves Glenn Driver's side back up to fourth place in the Ryman Premier Division, external , two points behind third-placed Needham Market, external .

    "I'd love to see the boy win the Golden Boot (awarded to the league's top scorer)," said Driver. 

    "It would be major for him after he stepped up from the Thurlow Nunn Premier to the Ryman Premier Division last year. If he wins the Golden Boot at this level that's an amazing achievement."

    If it looks bright and cheerful out there now, make the most of it, as a band of rain is set to move in from the west later today.

    Cloud will thicken, bringing some showery outbreaks of rain from the south-west during the afternoon. 

    Some rain may locally turn heavy, with hail possible, and brisk, south-easterly winds, which will be strongest near coasts. Maximum temperature 8C (46F).

    Best get the washing out on the line early, and get it back in by lunchtime....

    The online ticketing site, Viagogo, has been strongly criticised by MPs for failing to turn up to a hearing on ticket sale abuse.

    The Culture Committee heard from Ed Sheeran's manager, and music and theatre figures, about vastly inflated prices being asked for tickets that in some instances did not exist.

    Simon Jones reports that the witnesses warned fans who buy "secondary" tickets they might well be wasting their money as they could find themselves turned away.

    MPs have been told that tickets for an Ed Sheeran charity gig next week are being re-sold online for as much as £5,000 each.

    The Commons Culture Media and Sport Committee has been holding an inquiry into sites offering tickets to sold-out events, sometimes at hugely inflated prices.

    Ed Sheeran is backing a campaign urging fans to reject secondary ticketing sites and stick to authorised sellers. 

    His manager Stuart Camp, who's been giving evidence to the committee, said: "It's about our fan relationship; it's what our career's built on.

    "It's just about people not being ripped off."

    Drills are among Africa's rarest primates, external , with as few as 3,000 animals possibly remaining in the wild.

  13. Police tackle criminal behaviour with new approachpublished at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2017

    Police in Ipswich are launching a new approach to tackling criminal behaviour, looking at local young people who are involved in on-street violence and drug dealing.

    Supt Kerry Cutler (pictured on a previous occasion) said: "We wanted to try something different, we wanted to be a bit bold with how we manage our existing resources. 

    "We decided to pull together a small team to really tackle issues related to youths involved in drugs and anti social behaviour.

    "It's about working with them, their families and partner agencies, to take a robust approach to their offending, but also to look at diverting them from committing offences in the first place."

    Incidents in the town over recent months include:

    • Disorder in Nacton Road
    • Police officers being threatened in Corton Road 
    • Robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in Norwich Road 
    • Possession of cannabis in St Lawrence Street

    Two closure orders, external have also been issued, one in the Hadleigh Road area, and one in the Norwich Road area.

    I've been back to the offices, on Egerton Road in the Whitehouse area of Ipswich, and the poles are still there - but as you can see, the sign has been removed.

    Primary and secondary school head teachers in the county are among those from 3,000 schools across England who've written to their MPs and the government, urging them to rethink planned changes to school finances.

    They say a new national funding formula, which should give underfunded schools more cash, ignores inflationary cost pressures faced by all schools.

    The heads teachers are from 14 local council areas and represent 1.5 million pupils.

    The letter comes as the government's  consultation, external  period for the new school funding formula is about to close.

    Bawdsey Manor, external , famous for playing a central part in the development of radar, is being taken over by a children's activity holiday centre.

    PGL Adventure Holidays  says on its website, external : "In the next few months we will be busily preparing Bawdsey for the first stage of its new future as a lively PGL adventure centre, by adding many new PGL activities and preparing for guests to arrive this summer."

    Among the activities offered by PGL are motorsports, watersports, film making and dance.

    The manor was put on the market for £5m last year. 

  19. Plans submitted for train depot at former factory sitepublished at 13:17 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2017

    An application to build a light maintenance and train stabling depot, external at the former Wardle Storeys factory site in Brantham, is likely to be considered in May, according to Babergh Council.

    The plans include a train maintenance building, train stabling sidings, a track connection to the existing main rail line, and a train-washing facility, as well as offices, staff accommodation and a car park for staff and visitors.

    Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia's managing director, said at the time they were unveiled: "These are exciting plans which are integral to our commitment to improve and transform the railway in East Anglia."

    An application for more than 300 homes on greenfield land at the site, as well as industrial and commercial use of the brownfield site, was approved last year.
