    Cloudy with outbreaks of showery rain but becoming drier later with a few clear intervals.

    Temperatures will only fall to 12C (54F) in a strengthening northwesterly wind but Saturday may start cloudy.

    Any patchy rain will soon clear to leave a mostly dry day with sunny spells and areas of cloud but just the small chance of an isolated light shower.

  5. Jailed detective 'not corrupt', says judgepublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 30 June 2017

    A judge who has jailed a former detective for 28 days told him he was not corrupt.

    David Phelps, 42, of Lowestoft was found guilty earlier this month of intending to pervert the course of justice following a drugs arrest.

    Phelps was sacked from his job at Suffolk Police following his conviction.

    Passing sentence at Norwich Crown Court, Judge Anthony Bate said there was "no suggestion of a corrupt motive".

    "You were just trying to save time," he said.

    Judge Bate noted that Phelps had been dismissed and reminded by the chief constable that the core values of the police were honesty and integrity.

  6. Teenager jailed for double killingspublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 30 June 2017

    A teenager who was found guilty of killing two men at a travellers' site has been jailed for life.

    The Old Bailey jury convicted Nelson Smith, 18, of murdering Barry Street, 32, at West Meadows, Ipswich.

    He was found guilty of the manslaughter of Nathan Oakley, 18. He had been charged with murder but the jury returned a verdict of guilty of manslaughter due to a lack of intent.

    The sentencing judge told Smith he will have to serve a minimum of 17 years.

    Smith denied the crimes and claimed he acted in self defence.

    A former police officer has been jailed for 28 days for intending to pervert the course of justice.

    David Phelps, 42, of Lowestoft, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court this afternoon after he was convicted earlier this month of trying to tell a man what to say when he was arrested in connection with a drugs offence.

    Phelps was a detective with Suffolk Police but was sacked for gross misconduct.

    Kevin Baumber, mitigating for Phelps, told Judge Anthony Bate that the offence was “not malicious or sinister” and “there is nothing he more regrets in his life”.

    The court heard he had been looking after his poorly mother and had gone through a separation.

    Bentley javelin thrower Don Baker has told BBC Suffolk Sport it's "unbelievable" that he'll soon be competing for his country in the Bahamas.

    Just three years after taking up the sport, the 17-year-old's been named in the England, external squad for next month's Commonwealth Youth Games, external.

    "I've been training for it for a year," Don said. "I've been focussing on it over the winter with my winter training, and had three or four opportunities to qualify and in the first throw of my last competition I hit the qualifier.

    "I reckon as soon as I step off the plane I'll be hit by the warm air and it'll suddenly hit me that I'm halfway across the world throwing a javelin - unbelievable."

    Two mascots which had been stolen from a display at a family theme park have been returned.

    Soft toys of Woody Bear and Ronnie the Raccoon had gone missing from the gift shop at Pleasurewood Hills, Lowestoft, at about 14:35 on Wednesday.

    Staff said the characters were created specially for the park's opening in 1983 and carry "sentimental value".

  17. Man arrested after lorry crashes into A14 barrierpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 30 June 2017

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a lorry crashed into a central reservation on the A14.

    Officers were called to the westbound carriageway at Haughley, between Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds, at about 05:20 this morning.

    The lorry had collided with the central reservation and crossed onto the opposite carriageway.

    Suffolk Police, external said one lane remains closed in both directions as repairs are carried out.

    BBC Suffolk Sport understands that Ipswich Town, external are close to making midfielder Tom Adeyemi their fourth summer signing.

    The 25-year-old, who scored against the Blues while on loan at Rotherham last season, is a free agent after leaving Cardiff City recently.

    Adeyemi started his career at Norwich City, making 11 appearances for the Canaries before leaving Carrow Road for Birmingham City in 2013.

    Ipswich have already signed Joe Garner, Jordan Spence and Emyr Huws this summer, with winger Bersant Celina's loan move from Manchester City imminent.

  20. Ipswich Town's Kevin Bru banned from driving for second timepublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 30 June 2017

    Ipswich Town midfielder Kevin Bru has been disqualified from driving for a year after his car was spotted speeding while already banned from the roads.

    The 28-year-old told police he was not driving when his car was filmed speeding between Stratford St Mary and East Bergholt last August.

    But he failed to identify who was behind the wheel.

    He admitted three offences of failing to give officers information identifying the driver of his vehicle, at Ipswich Magistrates' Court.

    The Paris-born Mauritian international was handed a six-month ban in April, which was replaced with a year-long ban at the Suffolk court.

    The court heard he was playing football at the time of the offences.

    Neil Saunders, representing him, said he had "put his head in the sand".

    "All he can do is apologise. It was not malicious. It was naivety," he said.

    Bru was also fined £1,000 and told to pay £300 in court costs.
