A group opposed to the building of 69 houses on playing fields near Southwold (rectangular area in bright green on map) is holding a meeting this evening to urge planners to have a rethink.

At tonight's meeting, RAGE - Reydon Action Group for the Environment - will call on councillors to think again about the plan which is says would act as a green light for developers to build elsewhere in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Acting chairman Stephen Chessher said: "It will mean the permanent loss of a valuable part of the AONB and most of the houses built will inevitably become second homes which Southwold and Reydon do not need."

The development for 69 homes could raise around £4m for the school, which says it needs the money to improve computer systems, refurbish buildings and install new heating systems.

But more than 200 letters of objection have been sent to the council from people and groups concerned about the impact on the countryside, who say it would breach both local and national planning policies
