The 29-year-old, who has scored six goals in pre-season, will now be assessed ahead of this weekend's Championship opener against Birmingham City.

With David McGoldrick a doubt because of illness, the Blues could start the season with Freddie Sears as their only available senior forward.

Midfielders Emyr Huws, Tom Adeyemi, Luke Hyam and Teddy Bishop have already been ruled out of the match.

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy didn't pull any punches when assessing his team's performance in Saturday's 6-1 friendly defeat at League One Charlton Athletic.

"It was embarrassing, a shambles, a really disgraceful performance from us," McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"I'm certain that doesn't reflect how I am in terms of how we played. There was a lack of aggression, lack of spirit, lack of cohesion.

"If that was in November the quote would be 'well he's lost the dressing room, they don't want to play for him.' That's what it looked like.

"I know that's not the case, but that's what would be said and I couldn't argue with it."
