There will be thicker cloud and outbreaks of light rain and drizzle spreading eastwards through this evening and overnight.

It'll turn misty in places, with light south to south-westerly winds.

Temperatures under clear skies initially dropping to about 9C (48F), but by the end of the night everywhere will have risen back into double figures.

A grey and mild start to Saturday, with some patchy mist, rain and drizzle.

As the day goes on, drier and brighter conditions should gradually spread northwards.

Some northern parts of the region may hold on to some very patchy rain until late afternoon.

Temperatures will range from 15C (59F), where we keep the cloud, to 19C (66F) in the best of any sunshine.

We brought you news earlier of increased patrols by council wardens in Christchurch Park in Ipswich, as a result of complaints about anti-social behaviour.

Phil Smart, who looks after transport and environment at Ipswich Borough Council, made the comment that they "need to work with the police" as local authority budgets are under intense pressures.

We contacted Suffolk Police, and Sgt Jonathan Driver has responded, saying: "We are aware of concerns surrounding people dealing or taking drugs in parks in the Ipswich area.

"We are working together with partner agencies to monitor the situation and together with them our officers are carrying out park patrols to target those in possession of illegal substances.

"We do not tolerate drug dealing in Suffolk and will take action against those found to be committing criminal offences.

"We also encourage the continued support of members of the public to help identify who they are and where they are operating from so we can ultimately bring them to justice."

Meanwhile, Ipswich Town, external striker David McGoldrick believes fans unhappy with the way the team has been playing should look at the league table.

Town are currently fifth in the Championship, two points off the top, heading into tomorrow's match at leaders Leeds United.

That hasn't prevented some supporters moaning about a lack of entertainment in recent performances.

"Fans are never happy are they?" McGoldrick told BBC Suffolk Sport. "If we were entertaining and losing I'd like to see what the response would be.

"The way the season ended last year we had to start well and we've done that. We've got results while having a tough time with injuries. We've got five wins out of seven which is fantastic."

Ipswich Town, external boss Mick McCarthy admits he's pleased to see Leeds United doing well, but will be desperate to beat them at Elland Road tomorrow.

The Blues are currently fifth in the Championship, two points behind the Yorkshiremen who top the table.

"I would imagine there'd have been a bit of doom and gloom there after losing [manager] Gary Monk and [top goalscorer] Chris Wood in the summer, but it just shows you that change isn't always bad for clubs," said McCarthy.

"I don't know much about [their boss] Thomas Christiansen, but he's certainly made them a very, very organised unit.

"I want to go there and beat them on Saturday, but for all other intents and purposes I love to see them doing well because everybody knows I supported them as a kid," McCarthy said.

An Elmswell woman says she's amazed at the donation of £1,000-worth of DIY equipment for those getting back on their feet after Hurricane Irma hit the Caribbean.

Alice Bolton's cousins Afiya and Asha Frank, who went to school in Suffolk, were among those caught in the storm on Barbuda.

Two containers of equipment, including hammers and sandpaper, have been donated by local builders Ridgeons and they will go to the island in a week or so.

"They [the items] will be really, really useful," said Ms Bolton.

"Everybody's homes need work and so everyone will be able to get access to something in order to help them.

"You're not trying to spread things too thinly - everything will be incredibly valuable."

Police say the identities of a group who joked with the RAF airman outside a nightclub are now known.

About 3,000 runners are due to take part in the inaugural Great East Run, external being held in Ipswich on Sunday.

The half marathon, which follows in the footsteps of the hugely popular Great North Run, starts close to Portman Road football stadium.

It snakes through the town before heading out through Wherstead and through to the outskirts of Woolverstone, before coming back into town for the finish.

Project manager Alex Jackson said it's a sold-out event.

"Lots of people [are] really keen doing these kind of distances," he said.

"Half marathons many years ago were the top of the tree. Now people are doing marathons, ultra-marathons and therefore a half marathon is achievable for a lot of people.

"We want to grow the event and even try and get some kids events in there.

"We're keen to get kids out there active and aspiring to do the longer distances when they get older."

Concerns have been raised though by local residients on social media about a combination of road closures for the event and train replacement services, and the impact they could have in the town.

Network Rail is carrying out maintenance work between Colchester and Stowmarket and between Ipswich and Woodbridge on the day of the run, which is set to close all the connecting railway lines.

Ipswich striker David McGoldrick aims to at least double last season's goals total after a good start to the new campaign.

Greater Anglia has apologised after travellers criticised the rail operator for a lack of communication following an incident on the line near Ingatestone.

Services to and from the capital were disrupted for about six hours yesterday afternoon after a person was struck by a train.

Spokeswoman Kerri Worral said: "The staff on the trains should have been making regular announcements just to keep people informed of what was happening.

"At the stations we have our customer information screens, they're a help-point, and at some stations we ask extra staff to go down to those stations to support the staff that are there.

"I know staff on staff stations do everything they can to try and keep people informed, but when there's large volumes of people that can become more difficult."

Ipswich Town, external defender Chris Smith has signed for Vanarama National League South, external club Chelmsford City on a month's loan.

The 19-year-old made his Blues debut at Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup last month.

Sudbury boxer Billy Bird made a successful return to the ring last night.

In his first fight for over a year the 24-year-old middleweight beat Sonny Whiting on points in Chigwell.

A succession of injuries meant Bird hadn't fought since beating Evaldas Korsakas in May 2016.

He now has a professional record of 15 wins and just one defeat.

After the best part of a decade in the role, Gary Keyzor has stepped down as chairman of Lowestoft Town, external.

He says due to work commitments he can't give the role the time it requires, although he is considering staying on as a director.

Keyzor's finest moment at the helm came in 2014 when the Trawler Boys won promotion to the National League North, external - the second tier of non-league football.

In recent seasons Lowestoft have found the going tough, and after suffering relegation last year they currently sit third from bottom in the Bostik Premier Division, external.

Ipswich Witches beat Edinburgh Monarchs 50-40 last night in the first leg of their Championship, external play-off semi-final at Foxhall.

Rory Schlein top scored with paid-13, while captain Danny King, guest Mason Campton and Kyle Newman were also paid for double figure scores.

The two sides meet again tonight, in the second leg, in the Scottish capital.

"It's OK, it's not amazing but it could have been a lot worse," boss Ritchie Hawkins told the club website, external. "We pulled it back at the end of the meeting and built up a few more points.

"We have got to go there looking for the win and we are quite capable of doing that."

Extra council patrols have been taking place in Christchurch Park, Ipswich, following complaints about anti-social behaviour.

Phil Smart, who looks after transport and environment at Ipswich Borough Council, said patrols had found cannabis and drug dens, which were subsequently dealt with.

"We are looking at how we vary our patrols so there aren't any set patterns," he said.

"I have to say we do need to work with the police - local authority budgets are under intense pressures and we can't keep up a very high intense level of observation of all our parks."

We've approached Suffolk Police for comment.
