  1. Some victims of Stowmarket school abuse may be too late to claim compensationpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 21 September 2017

Some of the people who suffered abuse at a school in Stowmarket may have left it too late to claim compensation.

It's been revealed that more than £2m has been paid out by Suffolk County Council, in relation to Oakwood School.

Andrew Grove, the lawyer who's been working for the victims, says those who've come forward recently, will face difficulties: "There are a number of claimants who have come in rather late and we'll be looking closely at their claims.

"But as time goes by the courts are less inclined to allow the claims through because of the idea of limitation, in that you've got a certain amount of time to put your claim in."

    Chris LouisImage source, Stephen Waller

The Monarchs are the only team to have recorded a victory at Foxhall this season, but Witches promoter Chris Louis says his riders have improved across the roster since then.

"They have, and I'm sure that team manager Ritchie Hawkins' will be reminding the riders of that loss earlier in the season, and how it simply can't happen again tonight," Louis told us.

"It gave us the kick up the backside that we needed at the time. Certainly at home we'd become complacent, and we've stepped it up since then."

The Witches will be looking to take a lead into tomorrow's return leg in the Scottish capital, but what would constitute a satisfactory result?

"If you asked me what would be comfortable, I'd say a 20 point lead. If you asked me what's realistic, I'd say 12," added Louis.

"At the end of the day we just want to see 100 per cent from our riders. If they do that, then we should go to Edinburgh in a reasonably good place."

  6. Waste hub plans given go-aheadpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 21 September 2017

Controversial plans for a waste hub near Bury St Edmunds have been approved.

The decision to give the go-ahead to the scheme, at Hollow Road Farm, near Fornham St Martin, was taken during a council meeting at West Suffolk House in Bury St Edmunds earlier.

    West Suffolk House

Matthew Hicks, who's responsible for the environment and public protection with Suffolk County Council, said: "We identified Hollow Road Farm as the single best site for the hub after considered studies so we are pleased with today's decision and will continue to work with the local community to address any of their concerns going forward.

"It will reduce the use of rural roads by HGVs and reduce the miles travelled by vehicles moving waste from west Suffolk to the energy from waste plant at Great Blakenham.

"The Secretary of State will be informed of the decision in case he wants to call it on for review."

"He's fine now," McCarthy told us. "He was back in training on Tuesday and has done all of his rehab and fitness work."

To date, the midfielder has netted just twice in more than 170 appearances since joining the club in 2013, with the most recent strike coming in the match with Bolton last weekend.

McGoldrick believes Ipswich's style of play does not help Skuse in terms of opportunities in front of goal.

"He is our main sitter," McGoldrick said. "With that in mind, it's often hard for him to get up the field and get on the end of things."

"Technique wise, he strikes it cleanly with his left foot and his right foot. I say it to his face that he should be getting more goals, and hopefully he will add that to his game."

Witches rider Rory Schlein told the club website, external that won't give the visitors the edge tonight though.

“It doesn’t play on your mind really, I think we have beaten better sides at home this season. We were not good enough at the end of the day.

"They have got good riders, there is no doubt about that, but we know if we perform to our capabilities we should get a home win."

The second leg is in the Scottish capital tomorrow night.

  13. Waste transfer station application back before councillorspublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 21 September 2017

Plans for a controversial new waste recycling centre and transfer station on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds are being discussed by councillors.

The proposed facility at Hollow Road Farm, near Fornham St Martin, was reviewed by St Edmundsbury planning committee in July, but councillors wanted to defer the final decision over concerns about the impact on highways.

There's been a long-fought campaign to stop the waste facility going ahead with more than a hundred people regularly turning up at council meetings to register their protests.

    Protesters in 2015

Adrian Graves, who's been co-ordinating the campaign against the development, and is going to address this morning's meeting, said: "If you look across the country and see how other places operate these sort of facilities, they don't do it this way, and that is a huge concern for us.

"What we're going to ask for this morning is a recorded vote.

"We want to see which individual councillors feel they are content to support a proposal which has changed over time, over the last two, two-and-a-half years we've been fighting it, but are actually prepared to be accountable for the decisions they take."

The recomendation for the application is for approval by councillors.

"We know that lots of that food gets thrown away, and we wanted to make sure that didn't happen any more."

    Interior of shop

She says the food is free: "We decided to give it away because there are people in Bury St Edmunds who are in need of food, they're vulnerable groups."

Although she added that if anyone is in a position to make a donation, it will help towards their running costs.

The food comes from a variety of sources, including Tesco, and local shops in the town, as well as via the project in London.
