    Jasmin Taylor, external (right) is back in Suffolk after making an excellent start to the new Telemark ski season in Austria at the beginning of the month.

    The 24-year-old won a silver medal and a bronze medal at the opening World Cup event in Hintertux, taking her to 10 career podiums to date.

    Taylor said she was supported by four-time Winter Olympian Chemmy Alcott (left), who is probably Britain's most famous name when it comes to skiing.

    "She happened to be training in the lane next to me when I was out in November," Taylor said.

    "I asked if she might be about for this event and she agreed to come out a day early to support me and film me for the BBC. It was a lot of fun having her there with me, she was my hero growing up."

    "The majority of my team are male, so it was also nice to get the female perspective on things for a change."

  2. Suffolk Police to ask government to cover Corrie Mckeague investigationpublished at 11:27 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    Suffolk Police is to ask the government to cover the cost of its investigation into the disappearance of airman Corrie Mckeague, the county's police and crime commissioner said.

    Tim Passmore said he is expecting to sign-off the application to the Home Office this week.

    He said the investigation, which started after Mr Mckeague, who was stationed at RAF Honington, went missing in Bury St Edmunds on 24 September 2016, has cost the force up to £1.6m.

    It has included the search of a landfill site at Milton, near Cambridge, which ended yesterday with no trace of the serviceman.

    Mr Passmore said he thought it would be "only reasonable" for the government to cover the cost, especially after it funded the £1.1m towards the controversial police investigation into allegations of sexual abuse against Sir Edward Heath in Wiltshire.

  4. Train disruption continues after lorry hits bridgepublished at 11:08 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    This is the scene at Ely station this morning, with rail passengers gathered on the platform waiting for updates after a lorry hit a bridge.

    "Significant damage" was caused to the bridge near Eccles Road station in Norfolk, with some debris falling onto the track, a Network Rail spokeswoman said.

    British Transport Police said the top of the bridge was struck at about 05:30, closing all lines between Thetford and Attleborough, external.

    Disruption is expected on Greater Anglia trains between Cambridge and Norwich - check the last information here, external.

    East Midlands Trains have also been affected, with its Norwich services now starting and finishing at Ely or Peterborough (route pictured below) and alternative arrangements were in place, external.

    Engineers were due to be working on repairs for the rest of the day, Network Rail said.

    Having checked out Suffolk County Council's website, external, it appears there's just one school closed today.

    Hillside Special School in Sudbury is carrying this message on its website, external:

    "Due to sheet and black ice on Hitchcock Place and the school site, we are reluctantly closing the school today to keep everyone safe.

    "Apologies for any inconvenience.

    "We are hoping to resume normal business tomorrow."

  8. Cost of Ipswich Cornhill revamp risespublished at 09:32 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    The budget for the regeneration of the Cornhill in Ipswich, which was originally set at £3.2m, is likely to be increased to £3.6m, if councillors agree.

    Despite this proposed increase, there would still be a shortfall which would need to be met by slimming down the scheme, and possibly removing the proposed water fountain.

    Ipswich Borough Council, external's executive committee meets tonight, external to discuss the proposals, and to decide if it will increase its share of the cost from £800,000 to £1m.

    The rest of the funding would come from the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, external (50% of the overall cost) and Suffolk County Council, external (25%).

    The chief executive of Ipswich Hospital says they, along with the ambulance service, are experiencing increased activity, and that the hospital is absolutely full.

    Nick Hulme's message is "unless you really need A&E, please stay away".

    "Please think about community pharmacists, phone 111, make sure you're safe and if you're out and about please take it easy," he said.

    "We have managed to bed all the patients, we haven't got any patients waiting on beds in A&E.

    "They're all being cared for, there's nobody on a trolley in a corridor.

    "It is really difficult at the moment, so stay away, stay at home if you're not great on your feet and help us to help you."

  10. 'Significant damage' to rail bridge halts trainspublished at 08:56 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    Rail services between Ely in Cambridgeshire and Norwich are expected to be disrupted all day after a vehicle hit a bridge causing "significant damage".

    National Rail said the bridge near Eccles Road has been inspected and engineers confirm there is "significant damage to the structure".

    Until repairs have been carried out, the line between Thetford and Attleborough will be closed, external. It is anticipated it will remain shut until at least the end of the day, the company says on its website.

    East Midlands Trains services will not run between Ely and Norwich.

    Greater Anglia services may be cancelled or amended.

    Buses are running between Ely and Norwich.

    A consultation, external into the future of school travel in the county begins today, running until the end of February.

    The council currently spends £21m a year getting children to and from school, but says the current service is no longer affordable.

    Under its current travel policies, about 2,400 children and young people receive free/subsidised travel that it is not legally required to provide.

    Three options are being put forward:

    • In September 2019, change the school travel policy so it is in line with legal requirements
    • From September 2019, introduce the changes year-by-year as a child joins or moves school so it is in line with legal requirements
    • Make no changes to the school travel policy but make savings from other services provided by Suffolk County Council

    Greater Anglia passengers are being warned to expect delays and cancellations if they're travelling to Colchester, Ipswich, Norwich, Clacton, or Harwich from London.

    There's been a track defect at Rivenhall, between Witham and Kelvedon on the Colchester-bound line.

    This is in addition to the blocked line between Thetford and Attleborough which we mentioned a moment ago.

    Suffolk Police say there will come a point when they say they have carried out all the lines of inquiry that they can into the disappearance of RAF Honington airman Corrie Mckeague - but they have not reached it yet.

    They have now stopped their second search of a landfill site at Milton near Cambridge as part of their inquiry into his disappearance in Bury St Edmunds in September 2016.

    However, they say investigations will continue.

    Det Supt Katie Elliott told BBC Radio Suffolk that a senior officer will now review all the evidence they have gathered.

    Corrie Mckeague's mother Nicola Urquhart has been speaking on BBC Radio Suffolk, following the announcement that the police operation to search through Milton landfill site has finished.

    The RAF Honington airman disappeared after a night out in Bury St Edmunds in September 2016.

    Teams have been searching through the landfill, near Cambridge, based on the theory that Mr Mckeague had climbed into a wheelie bin in Bury, and its contents may have ended up there.
