    Eight illegal immigrants were detained at the Port of Felixstowe in the early hours of Saturday by police and Border Force officials based at the port.

    The eight, all males from Albania, had recently arrived on a ferry from Vlaardingen, in the Netherlands.

    Seven of the migrants were returned on the next ferry.

    One child was taken into the care of social services.

  7. Snow causes demand spike for the East of England Ambulance Servicepublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2017

    The East of England Ambulance Service, external said it had one of its busiest days of the year when snow fell across half of the region.

    It said it received almost 4,400 calls on Sunday, an increase in demand by more than 20%.

    Chief executive Robert Morton said: “The conditions we experienced yesterday were extreme and we would like to thank the public for being patient with our responses."

    It said the worst-affected areas were Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and west Essex.

    The service announced internal major incident status yesterday but this was stood down this morning.

    Kasabian have announced, external they'll be appearing at Thetford Forest, near Brandon, on Sunday, 10 June 2018, as part of the Forestry Commission's concert series, external "Forest Live".

    The band have just been announced as headlining the Isle of Wight Festival in 2018.

    Accolades include a Brit award in 2010, seven NME awards between 2007 and 2015, and four Q awards, including best track in 2017.

  12. Fire at car repair workshoppublished at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2017

    Seven fire crews have been fighting a blaze at a car repair workshop near Littleport.

    About 30 firefighters from Cambridgeshire, Newmarket and Mildenhall in Suffolk, and Outwell in Norfolk were called to the fire in Old Pools Drove.

    Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said it was called shortly after 10:00.

    Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire had been brought under control.

  13. Driver released after fatal collisionpublished at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2017

    A woman from Bury St Edmunds, who was questioned following a fatal collision between two vehicles in Wattisfield on Saturday afternoon, has been released by police pending further inquiries.

    An 80-year-old female passenger died at the scene of the crash, which involved the car she was travelling in, a black Hundai Getz, and a black Ford Mondeo.

    The 38-year-old driver of the Mondeo was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.

    The male driver of the Hyundai, and the Mondeo driver, both received treatment for minor injuries.

    The crash took place at about 15:55 on the A143 just south of the junction with Townhouse Lane.
