    In 2004, Dawn Hunter from York woke up with pins and needles and found she was paralysed from the waste down.

    After many trips to hospitals and doctors, she was eventually diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

    It's been a tough journey for her but, as I've been finding out, Dawn has definitely never given up:

    Anti-fracking protesters "‎are not seen as a terrorist threat", North Yorkshire Police have said.

    The force's statement came after City of York Council named campaigners on a list of "key risks to York" alongside Islamic terrorists and right-wing activists.

    Local anti-fracking campaigners said they were "shocked" to be included.

    Acting Assistant Chief Constable Amanda Oliver said the police statement had been issued to "avoid any doubt".

    She said: "The groups of local protesters have been nothing but peaceful and respectful of the law.

    "Not one arrest has been made in connection with protest action associated with the issue in our area," she added.

    An emergency "staffing summit" is being held in York today to discuss a chronic shortage of chefs, kitchen and front of house staff.

    An unprecedented number of new businesses opening in the city has led to what York Hoteliers' Association (YHA) describes as a staffing "crisis".

    Graham Usher, chairman of the YHA and general manager of the Best Western Monkbar Hotel, says he's never known the issue with chefs to be so bad in all his years in the industry.

    "York's hospitality sector has weathered many crises over the years, but this shortage of chefs and catering staff is unparalleled," says Mr Usher.

    "And with new restaurants opening on a weekly basis, it is only going to get worse."

    A mild autumn is being blamed for confusion among baby hedgehogs

    Annette Pyrah runs a wildlife orphanage at Barlby near Selby.

    I've been to see her and her rescued baby hedgehogs - including Pixie, pictured above. 

    Annette tells me she's had calls from Wetherby, Hull, York, Leeds, Castleford and Pontefract about hedgehogs struggling to survive.

    More than one million people in our region are living in poverty, and half of those are in work, according to York-based charity The Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

    About one in five people across Yorkshire are classed as being below the poverty line, the charity has found.

    The government claims overall poverty is down.

    The Oak ward has been closed for the last few days due to the outbreak.

    Visitors are still being asked to keep away from any hospital for 48 hours if they've had a sickness bug.

    Soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment have put their cricketing heroes through their paces at Europe's largest Army Garrison at Catterick.

    It was a foggy morning yesterday when troops from 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment ran the Tykes ragged with a series of challenges.

    Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale says it was was a great team-building exercise, even though the players might not have liked the wet and cold.

    Soldiers volunteered to take part.  

    The challenges included winching out a bogged down Land Rover, running a stretcher race before doing another 1.5 mile run back to the base at Somme Barracks.

  12. 'I couldn't be prouder' - Harrogate Town boss on FA Trophy replay winpublished at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2016

    Harrogate Town are through to the first round of the FA Trophy after a 3-0 win at Salford in their third qualifying round replay.

    They'll now meet Barrow on Saturday at the CNG Stadium.

    Town boss Simon Weaver has told BBC Radio York they thoroughly deserved the win and "everyone put a great shift in".

    "Three of the lads weren't very well at all and we've got a lot of players out still, but I couldn't be prouder for the players," he says.

    High rents are partly to blame for a rise in poverty among working people, according to a new report from the York-based Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

    The government says overall poverty is down. Their figures suggest that numbers have been falling over the last six years.

    The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is calling for the government to invest an £1bn per year in affordable housing.

    Three-year-old Macey Clark, from Ripon, has Cerebal Palsy.  

    Her parents, Robyn and James, are trying to raise £35,000 so she can have an operation which would help her walk on her own.  

    The surgery used to be something funded by the NHS but not any more, so Robyn and James have now launched a fundraising campaign:

    York City's new striker Jon Parkin says he's confident the club can survive in the National League this season.

    Parkin made his debut in Saturday's defeat at Tranmere, after joining the club for a second time last week.

    Parkin says: "This is the fifth time I've joined a club in a relegation fight. 

    "When I came here last time, we were second bottom. I went to Macclesfield they were second bottom. I went to Hull they were second bottom. I went to Scunthorpe they were third from bottom.

    "But I've not been relegated once yet and I don't want that to start this season."
