  1. Watch: 300-year-old North Yorkshire school could face closurepublished at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    David Ward
    BBC Local Live, York

A decision is due to be made later over whether to close a North Yorkshire School which has just 15 pupils.

The county council say it's meeting "with a heavy heart" to discuss the future of Horton-in-Ribblesdale Primary.

The 300-year-old school was judged "Outstanding" at its last inspection, but the council says it'll struggle to survive financially and maintain that high quality in the future.

If closure notices are published there will be a consultation period and a final assessment in January would decide if the school is to close in April.

Parents and governors say if the school did close, it would "rip the heart out" of the local community:

    David Ward

Let's get some more now on the news that Drax is to spend £340m on buying Opus Energy and four gas turbine development projects.

    Drax Power Station

In a statement, Dorothy Thompson, chief executive of Drax Group, says: "These acquisitions will play an important role in helping the government meet their ambition of new gas generation, reducing carbon emissions, forcing more coal off the system, providing additional system support to 'plug the gaps' created by intermittent renewables and boosting security of supply."

However she adds: "With the right conditions, we can do even more, converting further units at Drax to use sustainable biomass in place of coal. This is the fastest and most reliable way to support the UK's decarbonisation targets, while minimising the cost to households and businesses."

    Mike Kemp
    Reporter, BBC Radio York

The amount North Yorkshire County Council will pay care homes for their services next year is to be discussed by councillors later.

The authority's proposing to increase care home fees by 5% to almost £500 per person per week, and plans to increase nursing home fees by 15% to just over £490 per person per week.

But those who run the homes say it's not enough and warn some could go out of business.
