    Work has now begun to repair the damage caused by a 30ft-deep sinkhole in Ripon.

    People living in Magdalen's Road were forced out of their homes last month when the hole appeared in their back gardens, causing major damage to a sewer. 

    At the time, a total of 12 houses were evacuated and the occupants of four are still unable to return home.

    It's hoped work to repair the hole will be completed by Friday.

    Part of York's city walls remains closed today because of safety concerns.

    City of York Council shut the section between Fishergate Postern Tower and Fishergate Bar over fears of "subsidence".

    Engineers are due to inspect it this week and the authority said it would remain shut "for the next few days".

    The walls extend for 2.5 miles and enclose a total area of 263 acres.

    A council spokesperson said: "We don't like restricting access to the city walls but our first priority is safety."

    More now on the problems on the A19 at Fulford that we told you about earlier.

    As this picture below shows, the road has been closed near to the junction with Broadway. 

    That means you'll need to find an alternative route out of the city this morning.

    The road is open for inbound traffic, but you can expect long delays while police deal with the accident.

    Mark Selby has beaten Ronnie O'Sullivan 10-7 in a thrilling final at York's Barbican to win the UK Championship for the second time.

    In a sensational evening session at the Barbican, Selby scored three centuries in the final six frames of the match, with O'Sullivan hitting two of his own.

    Five-time winner O'Sullivan had fought back from 7-2 down to trail 8-7 before Selby claimed the two frames he needed to claim the sport's biggest title after the World Championship.

    A huge recruitment drive is being launched in North Yorkshire to get hundreds more volunteers to run our libraries, external.

    About 600 volunteers are needed in 20 new community libraries, North Yorkshire County Council says.

    The authority hopes three quarters of its 42 libraries will be community-run by next April. 

    Over the last five years, its library budget has been cut by £3.5m, so it's using volunteers to keep libraries open.

    Easingwold Library is the latest to ask for volunteers, so I've been to pay it a visit:

    It will be a dry day with long sunny periods after early inland frost and patchy fog slowly clears. 

    It'll remain cold inland despite the sunshine, but feel slightly milder along the east coast. 

    We could see low cloud spread northwards later in the day with top temperatures of about 2C (36F).

  8. Travel: Possible delays on A19 at Fulfordpublished at 07:08 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    It's not the greatest of starts on North Yorkshire's roads if you're about to try and make your way out of York on the A19.

    We're getting reports of an accident on Fulford Road near Hospital Fields Road. Anyone who regularly uses this to get into or out of the city on a morning will know that it's normally slow going on this stretch during rush hour.

    Elsewhere, it's not too bad on the trains this Monday morning, with the live departure board at York station, external showing most services running normally.

    However, the 07:37 service to Liverpool Lime Street has been cancelled and the 07:08 service to Newcastle is currently running about nine minutes late.
