    A Tadcaster teenager who's been missing from home since Sunday has turned up safe. 

    Lillibeth Ambler-Lomax, 13, was found by North Yorkshire Police at Leeds bus station yesterday afternoon, after she'd travelled north on a bus from the south west.

    Police have thanked the public for their help.

  4. Traffic and Travel: Roads and rail off to a good startpublished at 07:08

    The roads are off to a good start today in most parts of north Yorkshire,  but there are a couple of potential hold ups to tell you about:

    There are roadworks in Killinghall on the A61 Ripon Road near the B6161, and near Tadcaster there's water main work and temporary traffic lights on the A162 near the B1223 Raw Lane.

    Here's something a bit heartwarming for you now.

    School students from across York are sending hundreds of packages they have collected to help child refugees in Greece. 

    Almost 400 "lifebags" have been collected by children from The Mount, Fulford, Millthorpe, Bootham and St Paul's schools. 

    The idea came about when Mount pupils met students from Greece at an international PeaceJam Student Leadership Conference over the summer.

    Detectives investigating the disappearance of a North Yorkshire teenager, who it's believed is now in the Bristol area, have issued another picture of her, external in the hope of jogging someone's memory.

    Lilibeth Ambler-Lomax, 13, from Tadcaster, was last seen by her father at Huddersfield Railway Station on Sunday afternoon where she was due to get a train to York.

    She failed to return home and was reported missing at 19:30 on Sunday.

    The police search is now focused in Bristol and the surrounding area and North Yorkshire Police officers have travelled there to carry out further enquiries.

    Anyone with information about the teenager's whereabouts is asked to contact police.

  14. Charity regulator opens inquiry into Ampleforth Abbeypublished at 12:59 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

    The independent regulator of charities has opened an investigation into Ampleforth Abbey and the trust that runs Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire.

    The Charity Commission says its inquiry will investigate the charity trustees' "approach to safeguarding and handling of allegations of sexual abuse".

    It follows media reports of alleged historical sexual abuse against individuals with links to the Ampleforth College.

    The Charity Commission says the inquiry "would not investigate allegations of abuse or actual incidents of abuse, whether historic or recent".

    It says it will focus on the "management and governance of the charities and whether they have fulfilled their duties under charity law" and whether there has been any misconduct or mismanagement.

    It will also look at how safeguarding policies are implemented and how the charities dealt with the risks arising from alleged abuse incidents.

    The trustees of Ampleforth College say they're "co-operating fully with the Commission and as the inquiry is ongoing, no further comment can be made".

    Villages are being asked to play a key part in the future of phone boxes in the North York Moors area.

    BT is offering some communities the chance to adopt their phone box for just £1.

    It's something already being done in other areas where phone signal is poor and the telephone box is seen as an important asset. 

    Red phone boxes

    The North York Moors National Park Authority, external says phone boxes "provide a much-valued service to the local community, especially in areas with poor or no mobile signal (known as not-spots).

    "Or, in the case of villages which still retain the iconic traditional red phone box, they provide a valuable contribution to the character of the streetscape."

    The authority intends to compile a list of phone boxes people want to keep, which will then be fed back to local councils and BT. 

    It's eager to hear from people with thoughts on the matter and says: "If you have any reasons why a phone box scheduled for removal in your village should be retained, please let us know."

    North Yorkshire County Council faces having to make another £44m worth of savings over the next three years and is asking for people's thoughts on how it spends its money. 

    The council is due to find out this week exactly how much money it will get from government, and is currently working out what changes may have to be made to services. 

    Chief executive Richard Flinton says they are having to make difficult decisions and "really need views from the public":

    Earlier, I told you about the Christmas lights at Moorgate Plantation in Sessay near Thirsk.

    The lights are seen by thousands of people a day as they whizz past on trains heading to Scotland or London on the East Coast Main Line.

    And, if the thrill of seeing so many lights strung out as far as the eye can see isn't enough, there's something else I didn't mention earlier.

    • York City manager Gary Mills says he hopes his side's FA Trophy win over Worcester - their first win in 19 games - will be a platform for climbing the table
    • Harrogate Town travel to Barrow tonight for their FA Trophy first round replay. Town are the underdogs, they play a division below Barrow, who haven't lost for 23 games

    Could we soon see volleyball being regularly played on the beaches of Scarborough?

    We could if plans being considered by the borough council's cabinet, external this morning get the green light.

    The proposal for a beach volleyball court for Scarborough's North Bay would see it become a new home to the North Riding Eagles Volleyball Club.

    The club has previously been named Scarborough and District Sports Council Community Sports Club of the Year.

    The facility would also be open for use by a range of groups of all abilities, according to a report which is due to be considered by councillors later.
