• The Dales "bookseller from hell" has been defending his behaviour
• A man who reportedly punched an ambulance worker who was trying to help him has been arrested and is in police custody
• York singer Beth McCarthy who appeared on TV's The Voice has for the first released a single she has written and performed

Former Voice star, Beth McCarthy is starting the year with a bang.  She's just released a new single, Pretty Lies. It's the first time Beth has released a song which she has written and performed.  

Last year she recorded a version of Streets of London for the Idris Elba film 100 Streets.

She's been telling me about her new release and you can also hear a bit of it.  What do you think?

Tonight remains cloudy with hill fog and further outbreaks of rain at first. It will turn drier through the night but there'll still be some light drizzle in places.

A man's been arrested by police who were called to a report of an ambulance worker being punched in the face by a patient in York. 

It's alleged to have happened just before 03:00 today in the Peasholme Green area. A 20-year-old from Sherburn in Elmet was taken to hospital before going into police custody.

Great news for York chef Neil Bentinck who only opened his restaurant Skosh in Micklegate last May.

Plans to turn the clock tower at the former Terry's chocolate factory in York into apartments have been approved.   

The Grade 2 listed tower was part of the Terry's chocolate factory which closed in 2006. 

Developers say they'll provide a museum and viewing area within the clock chamber at the top of the tower.  

It's that time of year when everyone is setting their budgets.  

North Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner is asking you to take part in a survey, external. Julia Mulligan will then decide how much you have to pay for your police service in North Yorkshire.

The police precept is the amount of money you pay for policing in your council tax bill.

55% of funding comes from the government, the rest comes from you and me.  

Here are the options from the Police and Crime Commissioner:

1. Freeze the precept. Meaning no more to pay locally, but harder for the police to deliver services and balance the books.
2. Increase the precept by 1.99% in order to raise just over £1.2m for next year and subsequent years, but avoid a costly local referendum. This would mean the average household paying 8p a week more.
3. Put the precept up by more than 1.99% which could raise more money, but will mean at least £700,000 spent on a referendum on the proposals.

What are campaigners' plans to save Scarborough's Futurist Theatre?

More than 200 people were at a second public meeting last night to show their support for working together to save the venue.

I've been chatting to Scarborough-born actor Adam Flynn who's written a proposal to save the Futurist.

Harrogate Town's manager Simon Weaver, says a win tomorrow against Alfreton will get their promotion chances back on track. The Derbyshire side were the first team to beat them this season in National League North.

York City manager Gary Mills is optimistic ahead of their away match at Dover despite another defeat on New Year's Day.  

Mills says he's prepared to give striker Vadaine Oliver a chance following the conclusion of his loan at Notts County. He returns to the Minstermen on Monday.

Over the past two days we've told you about Steve Bloom who owns second-hand bookshop Bloomindales in Hawes.  

The local parish council received mor than 20 complaints about his rude behaviour. Councillor John Blackie called him the "bookseller from hell".  

Mr Bloom has been talking to me about the story which has been making national headlines and defending his actions.

It's going to be mostly cloudy and breezy. There'll be outbreaks of rain developing from the north-west through the day. Even though temperatures are rising it will feel quite cold.
