    A oneoff charity fundraising event for young homeless people in York has led to an independent tapas restaurant raising £45,000 for local charities.

    Ambiente Tapas, which has sites in York, Leeds and Hull, asked their customers if they would pay an extra pound on their bills for SASH, which supports young homeless people.  

    In 2015 they raised five thousand pounds.

    Last year the business started a charity of the month campaign.  Since then its customers have raised £45,000 and supported 29 charities.

    Are rail fares a rip off?  A group of people at York and Scarborough stations think they are.  They've joined a series of protests outside railway stations across the country this morning.  

    The demonstrations have been organised by the trade union-backed Action for Rail campaign group. They claim fares have increased twice as much as wages over the past decade... And some workers are spending as much as 14 percent of their salary on their daily commute. 

    I've been to visit the protestors.

    North Yorkshire Police have named the man who was found in one of York's rivers on New Year's Day.   

    He is 42 year old Craig Darren Batters from the city.  A member of the public called Emergency Services on New Year's Day to say they'd spotted a body in the water. near Holly Terrace in the city.

    Police want to hear from anyone who may have been in touch with Craig Batters between Friday 30 December and Sunday 1 January.

    Not long now until the Jorvik Viking Centre in York reopens after being flooded a year ago.

    Figures from Make It York show visitor numbers to the City for January to November 2016 were back to where they were in 2015 despite the flooding problems at the start of the year.

    A man has died in a police shooting during an operation near the M62.  

    West Yorkshire Police say a police firearm was 'discharged' at about 18:00 yesterday in Huddersfield.  

    A police spokesman says five people were arrested as a result of the operation, including three in the incident on the M62. The case has been referred to the police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

    Former West Yorkshire Chief Constable Allan Charlesworth, who lives in our county, has been giving an insight into what happens when there's a police firearms incident.

    What is your New Year's resolution?  Rather than giving something up, I've decided to do something extra.

    This morning I've been to Carecent, external in York, which serves up breakfast for homeless and unemployed people. The volunteers are also there for a friendly chat.

    On Boxing Day 2015, York flooded like it had never done before.  Parts of the city were deluged by the River Foss.The Jorvik Centre was forced to shut, it will reopen in April.  

    Hotels and guesthouses struggled to fill their rooms as tourism bosses tried to tell the world that York was open for business. 

    So how is York doing now?  I've been speaking to Dr Simon Woodward who's Head of Tourism and Hospitality at Leeds Beckett University

    It's a quiet start on North Yorkshire's roads this morning and rail services, external are also running on time.  

    A reminder that Tadcaster's Bridge Street is still closed so you can't drive through the town. 

    Watch out for speed restrictions on the A61 Princess Royal Way in Pannal near Harrogate where a new roundabout is being built. 

    A warning if you're travelling further afield into West Yorkshire, the slip roads east and west bound at junction 24 of the M62 at Ainley Top are closed.
