    Alliance and the Greens are celebrating early success in the council elections as some of their young candidates topped polls in parts of Belfast.

    Alliance's Ross McMullan won a seat in the Ormiston District Electoral Area (DEA) with 2,622 first preference votes, almost 1,000 over the quota.

    The Green Party's Aine Groogan topped the poll in Botanic DEA but still faces a wait to see if she will get a seat.
